AL - All Texas affair, Rangers up one-nill.

NL- Arizona (WTF) vs Philly - looks to be an interesting series. The proverbial immovable object vs the irresistible force.

I've been wrong all the way down the line, so what do I know? Not Cubs will win.

I want Texas to win so that owners have a recent example of spending big leading to championships

Texas vs Philly looks like they are on a collision course. Arizona's Cinderella story since Labor day ends this series

Think that's the only world series matchup I care to watch this year

So quick question. Anyone have any issues with the Phillies batting Bohm 4th and Castellanos 7th. I ask because back on PSD a lot of people felt Bohm was garbage. How much heat would Ross take if he did that?

Via BetMGM Sportsbook, Arizona began the season at +12500 to win the World Series. They were +550 to make the postseason and -750 to miss it.

Schwarber, Castellanos and Harper....what could've been

To nitpick, every single person here would have grown beyond tired of Castellanos by now, and probably a long time ago. Dude signed a 5/100 deal and has given them 0.2 fWAR in 1200+ PAs the last two years. .478 OPS in the playoffs last year too. Couldn't have timed his hot streak any better, but he's a combined 268/308/437 for the Phillies.

Oddly, I kind of liked the different dynamic that Castellanos offered our offense, being a free-swinger who actually didn't strike out a million times, in contrast to the patient-too-the-point-of-passivity hitters we had surrounding him and Baez. But he's a known butcher in the field and has never hit so much to hide that, as Schwarber has at times.

It's too bad that Schwarber tanked so hard in the Covid year, but at the end of the day, at his very best he's never posted a 3 war season.

I mean, yeah, I was fine with the guy striking out 21% of the time and throwing up a 646 slug. His 25.6% K rate with the Phillies is less ideal, and his 200+ drop in slugging is especially not ideal.

I'm certainly open to arguments about certain guys being better equipped than others to handle the power pitching you see in the playoffs, but on a per plate appearance basis Morel and Wisdom outplayed Schwarber and Castellanos by a fair margin.

Phillies Guys: 1391 PAs, 2.4 WAR, 76 Dongs, 114 wRC+

Cubs Guys: 731 PAs, 2.1 WAR, 49 Dongs, 115 wRC+

The Cubs have made some bad choices the last few years, but I'm pretty comfortable with those two not being around anymore.

rationalization is not a pretty color.

Castellanos was just as productive a hitter as Mike Tauchman this year.  Schwarber was as productive(less if you consider baserunning) as Ian “I don’t know if I love the bat in LF” Happ.  This is ignoring that they are both DH’s when not in the batters box.  Non-tendering Schwarber multiple years ago was a poor decision, but there’s no need to pine after the 2023 versions of him and Castellanos, regardless of price.

Yeah the most non-rational side of me misses Schwarber just because he just looks and acts like he was put on earth to be good at hitting baseballs and terrible at everything else (see also: Castellanos). In a weird way, because I realize the 2021-2023 Cubs teams wouldn't have been noticeably better at all with Schwarber, I'm kinda happy we (poorly) decided to non-tender him and he got to go hit playoff dongs for Boston and Philly. Absolutely flawed, absolutely super fun player. Good for him.

That being said, as much as 'not getting the premiere free agent' can be an unequivocal mistake, not getting Bryce Harper was a unequivocal mistake.

This narrative in Harper is pointless. The Cubs were NEVER in on Harper. It was never a real consideration. Harper was going to take the longest and most money contract, period. Cubs were never going to be that for him. Sure, it would have been awesome to have him. I agree. But not getting him is no different than not gettting Betts. I don’t see anyone suggesting the Cubs made a huge mistake not getting Betts. And again, I would love Betts too.

As for Schwarber and Castellanos, I will take the Cubs corner outfielders over those guys. Cubs did fine without those guys.

Should have traded for Trout 6 years ago too. Maybe should have signed Soto when he was a teenager or Scherzer (too)the year they signed Lester. All as likely as them getting Harper. Funny thing is, if they signed Harper back then people would have been complaining about spending that money on a cocky overrated ballplayer. And they would have been complaining about how he will suck when he is 36.
