Good lord, every morning I wake up to a cluster**** of a boxscore, it seems.

The Cubs basically need a sweep of the Rockies at this point. Not a great situation to be in. Fortunately, the Brewers are hot and taking on the Cubs' direct competition right now, the Miami Marlins (who are running out a TBD starter today versus Burnes). It feels impossible that the Cubs are still in a postseason spot as of this moment but they are. A good series against Colorado will go a long way toward keeping them there.

I still think they make it to the playoffs.

This is one point where playoff odds start to break down. Projections look at the Cubs schedule and see Atlanta and Milwaukee, which hurts their chances.

But if both those teams are completely half-assing it, how much does that change the odds? I don't really know.

Counterpoint: is a half-assing it Brewers or Braves team actually worse than the Rockies or Pirates?

Young getting a start. Ross will play ANYONE, but Canario and PCA lmao

Did ya think we'd see Canario start again after driving in 5 runs ? Lol

Even if they sneak in to the 3rd WC, they will get waxed pretty quickly by Milwaukee anyway.

They ran out of gas, and the injury bug is a thing, but how much of this is on Ross and or Jed?

Postseason baseball would be great but yea, itll most likely look like 1998 against the Braves with a quick exit.

There are 12 non-catcher hitters on the roster and Canario and PCA are probably the 11th and 12th best options against RHP, maybe one of them is 10th ahead of Wisdom.  Against LHP Canario might sneak up to 9th if the pitcher doesn't throw hard.  They aren't playing because they shouldn't be playing.

I'm glad we are back out there for a day game today. Wipe off the sour taste from the last 2 nights and go get a Win.  Hopefully that would put some pressure on Ari/Miami/Cin.

  • Brock Beauchamp changed the title to 9/22 - Rockies (Davis) vs Cubs (Taillon): 1:20pm, Marquee

It's getting to the point where the losses barely sting anymore.  Yes I rant and rave like everyone but for as hurtful as those 2 losses were to our sinking playoff hopes, they mostly bounced right off of me the way they wouldn't have a week earlier.  I guess what I'm saying is, if they win its a nice boost going into the weekend, if they lose its just more of a same and we can use this Simpson photo:

As much doom and gloom that we see around here, I found this interesting.  The Phillies got hot at the right time last year and made it to the world series.

Right before their hot streak? 3-10 from September 15 - September 29 including getting swept by the Cubs. Finished the season on a 4-3 run to barely make the playoffs as WC3.

I think we have to finish stronger than that to make the playoffs, but I'm just reminding the group that once you are in, anything can happen.  I think we still have one more big push in us to make the playoffs. It starts today.

In AAA:

  • Jared Young: 376 PAs, .430 wOBA
  • PCA: 158 PAs, .365 wOBA
  • Canario: 161 PAs, .373 wOBA

Young has 7 and 5 years on those dudes and plays a significantly less valuable position and is in general a significantly less valuable asset to the franchise. It's ok to say he's a better hitter right now.

A near 30 year old dude having a career year at AAA is a lot less likely to have any success at the major league level. Canario had a good game and was immediately benched. I think it's clear who should be playing.
