The meltdowns this is going to cause are going to be pretty great

If anyone thought we were shopping in Yamamoto waters, they clearly weren't paying attention.  The one thing this does do for me is that I hope they don't waste trade assets on a Bieber/Framber/etc.

We're now so far behind the upper echelon of the NL that it doesn't make sense to dump a ton of resources to win a division that isn't making a deep run for a few years.  Keep what we have and hope we hit

Lets never try to get better, never ever.

  • Outshined_One changed the title to Yoshinobu Yamamoto to...the Dodgers? Really? Again?

Sorry didn't mean to offend

None taken. Just figured you were using shorthand without realizing the loaded history behind that term.

As to your assessment, I agree that the Dodgers are going to own the Japanese market and pipeline for the next generation.

Just like that the Dodgers have completely cornered the Japanese market. I think a 27 mil aav will end up being a steal for them.

You did good.

Doesn't feel this way because the Dodgers have made a number of expensive moves, but both New York teams still have a higher LT payroll than the Dodgers.  It took this move for the Dodgers to pass the Braves.

Yep they positioned themselves perfectly for this off-season. Enough room to get Sasaki next lol

I don't think you actually believe they should do this

Mets out-Metsing themselves by somehow turning a 101 win roster into a 75 win roster after spending $500 million free agency was pretty sensational stuff.

Well to be fair the Dodgers this offseason haven't been just re-signing their own players to big deals and handing out huge dollars to old people.

on the bright side, the odds are still against them winning the world series each year, so we'll get to enjoy them losing most octobers

then we will just find a way to discredit the ones they do win, just like 2020

Yeah because of the stupid deferred Ohtani contract.

No, the LT value is accurate for the Ohtani deal, it's the announced 700 that's fake for any practical purposes.  It's because they cut payroll last year to try to get under the line (unsuccessfully), and then had Kershaw, Urias, and Bauer(combined LT: 57 million) fall off in addition to another 41 million in marginal players(K Hernandez, JDM, Treinen, Hudson, Peralta).

Another fan fiction opt-out..

He cost them $425 million.  Who the heck else was going to be in on that?  F*** the Dodgers. Ohtani and Yamamoto can now afford to buy the Dodgers and move them to Tokyo.

After this season the Dodgers will be running out Ohtani, Yamamoto, Glasnow, and Kershaw in the rotation, and have a lineup anchored by 3 of the 4 best players in baseball with Ohtani, Betts, and Freeman.  This is insane.  And the offseason isn't even done yet, they could keep adding...

they're insanely stacked, but the field will still be favored each year

The Dodgers now have 4 players who are better than anyone on the Cubs.  Any time Glasnow is healthy you can count 5.  Maybe the Dodgers sign Soto and Sasaki next year, that would be fun.

Yes, the only way anyone wins the WS now is by luck.

The Dodgers won 100 games this season and just added Ohtani, Yamamoto, and Glasnow.  Urias was worth 1 WAR last season, but if they let him walk they still added about 15 wins.  Lucky for us Ohtani can't pitch yet.

Do we really know that Yamamoto would be the best player on the Cubs?  It is way too early to make that assumption.

what? you're completely missing the point. I was making a tongue in cheek post about how all is not lost.

Yeah the NL Champs had Tommy Pham hitting cleanup for them and their #3 starter had a 5.72 ERA.  I don't understand how people still don't understand how random the baseball playoffs are

Or you could ask Vince Young Eagles, Payton/Malone Lakers, or the current San Diego Padres. It rarely works.

you had to really dig deep for those 3 examples
