I guess we have to hope the other WC teams struggle.  Gotta get 1 this weekend against Arizona to keep them to 2 games behind.  But man if Steele can't outbattle another really good pitcher facing the offense that's scored 2 runs the last 2 games, Sunday is going to be nerve wracking.  Steele is coming off 2 of the highest pitch count outings of his career....

Or we can come back in the 9th and win, I suppose thats still on the table

He does have a choice.  He can try to get a 7th inning out of Taillon, he could try to get a 2nd inning out of Merryweather.

I meant his overall usage, but sure. There’s been games that have gotten away from taillon quickly, and generally the numbers are going to support a bullpen pitcher over a starter going through the order for a third time.

Can we talk about how mastrobuoni hasn’t hit in 3 weeks and is apparently just there for vibes. Or is it not even worth it.

What the hell is Alzolay doing in there now? If he could pitch, pitch him instead of Leiter.

It's not Ross' fault the offense can't score, but this has not been his finest game.

Ugh.  Now it's less likely to get around to Bellinger in the 9th.  Also, if Gomes does get on to start the inning, you can't pinch run for him because we are out of catchers.

Well played all around Ross lol

Why is Alzolay pitching here? Am I missing something?

Because we really didn't want to backdate his impending IL stint, I guess

Most times I forget he is even on the team. And I'm not sure why he is.  He is a pinch runner or defensive replacement and he isn't particularly good at either of those.

If the Cubs lose 1-0, I have a hard time blaming Ross for his pitching decisions.  You have to at least score 1 run to win a game.

yeah but it might still be 0-0 if he hadn't managed the pitching like he did.

We didn’t score a run in 9 innings and got through a taillon start without burning a single pen pitcher for tomorrow, I wouldn’t think. And only giving up one run. It’s fine.

Perfectly fair to call out both.  The offense is the biggest blame but seems like we lose too many close ones with headscratching decisions.

Come on Nico. Gallen just walked a dude, make him throw some pitches, he's already at 100+ pitches!
