15 runs scored in last 6 games. A couple of 9th innings from being 5-1 in that stretch

Wasn’t watching why was Alzolay out tonight?

Another heartbreaking loss to a team that the Cubs should not be losing to.  David again brought in Leiter who hasn't pitched well for a week or more.  David just doesn't do a good job of managing the bullpen.

The good news is that all the slumping guys will be right back out there tomorrow

Id like to see what an anti-slump lineup looks like.  Sure maybe no Morel, maybe you give Candy a breather and start Madrigal at 3rd, but then you either have Wisdom at first or Tauchman in CF.  Dansby pretty much has to play due to his defense.

The team is just going to have to figure it out.  Teams slump during a season and then they don't.  There's no advice that you and I can give to get them out of the slump, they need to continue working behind the scenes and find their way out of it.

Maybe don't bat the guy who is like 5 for 115 second in the lineup? Maybe stop burying Jeimer in the bottom of the order?

Ross is the "definition of insanity" manager. He just keeps copy/pasting his lineup card expecting something to change

Dansby now 19 for 109 since August 1

How does that correlate with the heel injury?  He sure doesn't show any signs of being injured on defense though, so that probably has nothing to do with it.

I get it, but who else isn't playing that should be?  It's not like the Cubs have a hot bat sitting on the bench.

Probably could have used a reliever at the deadline. These dudes are gassed with no off days in site.

Leiter and Alzolay are totally gassed.  I would have went with Assad in the 9th, but Leiter pitched well the last time vs Reds.

Jed failed to get enough good arms in the offseason and it screwed them early in the year, and he failed to get anyone again at the deadline.  If you repeat the same mistake twice you're a fool.  If the Cubs miss the playoffs it's 100% on Jed's failure to acquire enough pen talent, we lost a lot of games in April/May because of it and now it's happening again because they have to overuse these guys because Jed failed.  It's outrageous.

They need to send down Canario and call up at least another arm.  This is a huge stretch of games right now, all wildcard contenders, it's a really tough month.  Ben Brown needs to come up, he can give some innings in relief.  I would consider calling up Horton for the pen at this point at least for a week until Leiter/Alzolay get some rest, unless they feel they need to shut Horton down entirely due to usage post-TJS.

Teams are spinning him breaking balls away and just like Morel he can't hit them.  Why anyone throws Dansby a fastball is unbelievably stupid.  He should only see like 20% fastball as a show-me.

They are at the max for pitchers yiu can carry on a team. They can’t send down a position player to bring up a pitcher.

Assad was at 96 or 98 pitches after 8. It was a very warm and humid day. He was done. Has Ross gone with Assad in the 9th and he blew the game the same people complaining about how stupid Ross is for going with Lieter would be complaining he kept Assad in too long. The move he made was the correct move, assuming Alzolay was not available. Lieter just didn’t have it.

Dansby is swinging through plenty of fastballs in the zone. It’s like he’s closing his eyes and praying every time he swings. When he does make contact, it’s often weak or right at someone.

good thing they didn’t trade bj murray or whatever for a reliever at the deadline

If you don't get enough quality pen arms in the offseason then you're forced to overpay for them at the deadline.  They did neither.   It is incredibly stupid, especially the former.  We were always a couple of injuries away from disaster and injuries inevitably happen.  I called it in February and everyone said the pen would be fine.

A quality pen arm only costs a few million and we're giving away a bunch of money on multi-year deals to replacement guys like Mancini,  Barnhart, and Smyly.  They sign these types every year.  Descalso, Villar, Arrieta.  Stop giving multiple millions to players with fringe talent.  Go find the next Wisdom or Tauchman or Ortega, at least they make nothing and can be cut if they suck.

10 million for Mancini and Barnhart and they're cut because sucky players that clearly lack athletic tools inevitably suck.  10 million could have bought a couple of very good late inning relievers or a very good closer.
