With a lefty on the mound, does Canario see some action today? If he does, would like to see him in the field instead of DH'ing.

Yea, I think tonight would be a good opportunity to sit Tauchman and start Canairo in CF

Forgot about that. Makes the 9th inning last night even a little more annoying now.

Not sure he starts in center (Bellinger) but I agree he needs to be in the one up.

True but I'm not worried much about the Reds or any teams behind them, Cubs control their destiny over them, need some help to catch the Brewers and Phillies

No Canairo in lineup but hey we get Wisdom and he playing 1B

Why, why does Ross keep playing Wissom at 1st? I don’t get it.

also, why not Canario at DH? Not like Morel is killing lefties. Give the guy a chance against a lefty starter. Hope Morel hits 2 homers. I would gladly eat crow for suggesting he shouldn’t be in the line up. But I really wish Canario got the start.

That what I was thinking too, that he'd be in to play for either Tauchman in CF or Morel at DH, there absolutely zero reasons to start Wisdom anymore, just leave him on the bench to PH late if you need a HR

I am just tired of Ross and his loyalty . Not the time for that horsefeathers . Wisdom should not be playing the field period . Morel for some strange reason doesn’t hit lefties , even when he is doing well . Canario should be in CF . Bellinger should be at 1B . Madrigal should be at 3B . Take your pick between Candelario who is slumping or Wisdom at DH .

The margins are not huge so there's room for logical people to disagree, but I don't see much reason for Canario to start any games unless you have a rare situation(LHP starter, multiple regulars hurt/rested).  He's a defensive downgrade if you stick him in CF, and as a DH he's not going to provide anything that Wisdom and/or Morel do not, and he'll be a different/worse profile as a hitter than Candelario and/or Madrigal.  Let him be a matchup PH as needed, but these games are not for us to find out what we have in Canario, they are to win and make the playoffs.  And Canario being a mystery box is not synonymous with him being a better option than others we may be (momentarily) down on.

At least for me, I'm not suggesting to start him everyday now, im just saying with Tauchman and Morel skidding a bit now, today against a lefty would of been a good time to see if he can provide a little spark for the offense, who knows maybe he has a crazy first 10 AB or so to start with and help them win a couple games.  But at the very least give him a game to see, we don't need to see Wisdom anymore, especially at 1B.

The underlying logic here is 'these guys haven't been good recently, maybe the new guy will be better', it's bad process to chase the hot hand this way when there's little reason to think the new guy is a materially better player or matchup.

You never know unless he plays, we know what we're gonna see with Wisdom, they brought the kid up, might as well see if he can spark something tonight.

I am not suggesting him playing the field. No reason for him to play center instead of Bellinger. But giving him an opportunity at DH would have been fine with me.

Was this the same logic used for staying with Smyly instead of Wicks? How is Wicks looking so far(chasing a hot hand) over Smyly (a guy who hasn’t done well starting lately).

Smyly was struggling to a worse degree than the RHH on the squad, and Wicks is a better caliber prospect who has been set up for success with extra rest that probably would've benefitted Smyly had it been given to him.  Also, since Wicks was called up Smyly has pitched fine with 5 IP, 2 R, 7/1 K/BB (most of that coming in a post-opener start situation) which really underscores that reactionary changes because you're frustrated with a guy's recent performance is not a great path to optimizing performance.  This type of thinking would've had us throw away Merryweather, Madrigal, Fulmer, Seiya, Morel, and probably others at various points in the season for a shiny new option from the bench/Iowa, and they'd be much worse off for it.

ok def don’t want to re-sign candelario

I know you are probably joking , but Candelario has a very uneven resume . Giving him a 4 -5 year deal would be risky . Maybe if they improve enough elsewhere they would go with Madrigal at 3B, given how he has adjusted on defense at the position

No one has suggesting throwing guys away. Even if they started Canario instead of Wisdom or Morel I or anyone else has suggested that be a permanent answer. Guys are struggling. Why not give a young guy some AB.

I feel like I'm giving a pretty clear answer to this question.  Again, I don't want to overstate this, reasonable people can disagree, but if you want an answer to the question 'why not try Canario?' it's that he isn't as good as the players who are playing instead, even if those players aren't currently hot.
