oof

Yikes, so basically don't expect him back this year

Also, with an ERA over 9 his last 6 weeks of starts and then a potential season ending injury....is he more likely to opt in now?

Any chance the Cubs consider Jordan Wicks for some starts?  I'm guessing they won't because he's about to hit his high in IP.

After tomorrow the Cubs play 27 games in 27 days so there's really no opportunity to skip over someone.  Rotation will be Steele, Taillon, Hendricks, Assad, Smyly unless they give Wesneski another shot.  They will not let Kilian have another shot (I hope)

Is Keegan Thompson figuring it out at all in Iowa or is he still having issues?

10.71 ERA in 21ish IP

I've been mostly paying attention all year and I have no recollection of him pitching a single inning for the 2023 Cubs. Then I find out he pitched 21 innings in 15 games.

Doesnt sound promising.  He also says he has no idea how he injured it which seems odd.

Something doesn’t seem right about this whole thing. Stroman is a strange cat but seems bizarre even for him to walk up to the press box during a game to tell reporters about his injury.  Is it possible he got hurt in an unusual way or there’s some sort of disagreement behind the scenes about what’s going on?

Completely talking out my ass here, but I wouldn't be shocked if he took it personally that the Cubs seem to be very interested in bringing back Bellinger while they've been pretty clear about not being interested in extending him.

I would certainly hope Stroman can recognize there is nothing personal in a team potentially valuing a 28 year old star outfielder over a 32 year old pitcher, especially when his performance in the second half of the season has validated the Cubs decision to let him walk.

Yes, but the talks about not being interested in extending him started before he began falling apart. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he decided that he didn't want a team that that didn't want him. I mean he isn't exactly known for being the best teammate which is why he had to settle for the 3 year deal the Cubs gave him in the first place.

I get that there's something weird about this situation and my mind wandered there too but I'm not sure how refusing to play or slow playing an injury benefits him at all.  Unless you are suggesting that he went up to the press box to talk to reporters simply to control the message about his injury because he's upset at the Cubs org for not engaging with him on an extension.

I'm not suggesting anything, I just wouldn't be surprised if we found out it was some scenario like that. He's a different guy, so who knows how he handles his grievances.

Cubs got their rib guy back, y’all thought you could just throw this fact into the game thread?

That's the problem with the "catch-all" game threads. Maybe they attract a bit more activity, but they hide topic discussions that nobody ever goes back to again after that day. It's easy to miss information that previously would have had its own thread or (gasp) something in the Transactions forum.
