Cubs are back into a Wild Card spot. After today, they need to get through three with the Jays and then they are faced with three absolute punching bags from the AL Central. If they can get through the next four, they're in nice shape heading to the end of August.

Hope they have Killian or Assad ready to go today if Hendricks gets into early trouble. I dont trust him right now,

Also, Sharma has a good article on Taillon's fixes up on The Athletic right now if anyone has a subscription. I found it really interesting.

Using this as a daily discussion thread.  There was some talk on Twitter today (yes TWITTER) about how the Cubs end the season in Milwaukee.  With the NL Central leader currently lagging behind even WC1 and WC2 right now, there's at least a decent chance that the Brewers and Cubs may already be locked into the 3 and 6 seeds (if they both stay ahead of the pack), with the series determining who gets the division and plays the WC round at their ballpark.

Meaning we could see a scenario where Game 162 is played to determine whether the WC round gets played in Milwaukee or in Chicago.

I'm sending this sucker off the rails!

What do people think about this process? Is this a good way to use game threads before game time? I do not have strong opinions on this either way, it's really up to all of you.

It serves the purpose of a daily potpourri topics thread until the game starts without the need to have a bunch of new threads.

Also, how exciting is the end of the season going to be with the Cubs up or down 1 with three to go?

Speaking of daily pre-game discussion:

Reds and Marlins are tied at 4 heading into the Marlins half of the 9th

Rockies are leading the Brewers 4-3 in the 5th

We obviously prefer the Reds to lose but with the Marlins just 0.5 games behind us in the long run it doesn't matter who loses that.

Aren't the Marlins the "better" team, thus we want the Reds to win?

Yeah i was going to make that point too.  At this point the regression we've been waiting for all season with the Reds seems to be happening.  The Marlins are probably the more formidable foe, though they've been struggling big time too.

Brewers just hit 2 straight HRs to take the lead over the Rockies

Miami isn’t very good either. 11-22 since June 30. They’ve ridden a 25-10 record in 1 run games to where they are. As long as one of them didn’t sweep (which neither did), it was a fine result to me.

I see that and they've even struggled since the deadline but they made several deadline moves so I see a better team lurking in there whereas the Reds are essentially unchanged but are regressing to what we expected.

Reds lose.  The Cubs for now go from percentage points ahead of the Reds for WC3 to percentage points ahead of the Marlins for WC3.

Rockies take a 6-5 lead in the 10th

edit: and brewers quickly tie it back up and are in position to walk it off
