Ok, you heard it here gentleman. If you're 25+ and you're not putting up a 200 wRC+ on 80% flyballs you're horsefeathers and not worthy of getting a chance at the big leagues.

I think we can all agree that he ought to be given a good shot at making the team in spring training.  If he shows that he belongs, then use him as 1B/DH.  Of course, his ml stats might also make him attractive trade bait.

I don't know if FullCountTommy from Twitter reads NSBB, but he's been barking about PCA getting some time with the big club at the end of the year. Would be interesting.

Saw that too. It'll be an ongoing discussion for fans and the front office alike as long as the Cubs remain competitive. There are two spots on the 40-man right now, but keeping those into the offseason could prove extremely valuable.

Someone forgot to tell MLB.com that PCA is a consensus top 5 prospect. He dropped to 12 in today's list.

Yes but Cade Horton is the 4th best pitching prospect in baseball according to that list.  I can't remember if that was you or Tom that was pushing back on that or what the parameters were.

Edit: nvm it looks like the argument was that he was a top 5 prospect in baseball I think, which in that case no, he's 30

I didn't even say that he wasn't a top 5 sp prospect or that it was crazy to think so. I just said that it was an aggressive placement.

If a guy being two spots out of the top 10 (with 2 of the guys ahead of him draft picks from this year) on one list means PCA is a worse prospect than before, then the Cubs need to pack it up

No they don't. That doesn't make sense.

PCA has to come up at this point. Hottest hitter since he got put on Iowa.

Bench madrigal. Candy at 3 belli at 1 and pca in center. Guarenteed playoffs

I don't disagree - would love to see him get a few chances. Could help his development down the line.

Really the only thing stopping the Cubs once the calendar reaches August is whether they want to burn the spot on the 40-man roster.

Yeah that's tough considering they are already concerned about 40 man crunch.  But I'm guessing PCA would be put on the 40 man sometime in the next 12 months anyways, so any 40 man planning they do is with that in mind.

Best players have to play. It's that simple.

If the roster crunch is bad you can cut someone else.

I like the mentality of this, especially in a playoff push. But there is value to keeping guys on the 40-man who may not be quite ready yet. Development takes time. It's a tough balancing act of contending at all costs v.s. future benefits.

Agreed. You'd have to imagine they go into the offseason expecting to put PCA on the 40 man after Spring Training (if he's not already on it). Still, keeping that extra spot open for an under-the-radar guy can be important -- look at Tauchman this year.
