Beating up on bad teams and teams with horrible starting pitching for 3 weeks was fun, but we aren’t in the same league with the Braves. I had a feeling they were going to humble us real quick. Their offense rakes 1-9 and when they really turn it on, my god they are unstoppable.

It's baseball though, the White Sox took 2 of 3 from Atlanta.  The Cubs came in hot and at home....I didn't expect a humbling.   I think the biggest factor is that the Braves sat in their Chicago hotel rooms and watched the Cubs play until 10pm last night.

It is one game. Does it really matter if they lose 11-0 or 3-2? Has the reds won yesterday would they have cared that they got clobbered two games in a row? Would we have been happy because we crushed them twice and they only beat us by 1 run twice? That would be NO. Braves are very good. The next two are going to be tough. But as was pointed out, the Sox beat them twice. They can lose games. And this one has no extra value in the next two, no matter how baxk we get beat.

I disagree, this really hurts our chances of winning the Run Differential title

I think one of the things I hate most about the Braves is that they were like 'oh Freddie Freeman is getting older lets just replace him with Matt Olson' and now Olson is on pace for like 57 HRs this year.

Plus they saved a bunch of money doing that

Man Seiya is just unplayable right now.   He looks lost and miserable out there.  Part of me wonders if he just packs up his horsefeathers after this year and goes back to Japan to play out the rest of his career.  He looks completely unhappy out there.

Meh. Doubt the intensity level was very high to face the White Sox. They are the best team in baseball and they kicked our ass today. Not really an excuse to be made.

He hasn't been able to adjust to the MLB strike zone and now he's lost.

What makes their intensity level high today?  My point is that its baseball and the better team doesn't always play better over a 3 game series.  Any individual 3 game segment of the season is a weighted crapshoot.  The Cubs are red hot and playing at home, you shouldn't expect them to get their ass kicked, though clearly it was a potential outcome

No chance he's giving that money back.

wasting wesneski was dumb. now we have to win with Assad or beat strider to scratch out 1 win

I saw somewhere that Morton was scheduled to start Sunday, unless I read it wrong

There’s a human element involved. If you’ve played any level of sports in your life, you know what I’m talking about. The extent of my baseball career was JUCO. I wasn’t really good, but I know we played harder against good teams and well known teams in the league than we did crappy teams. As hitters, it was natural to have a different mindset when we faced a pitcher that threw 94 with a 2 ERA than a pitcher that threw 84 with a 7 ERA. Point being I imagine the Braves were a little more amped up to play a surging Cubs team in front of a packed Wrigley crowd than a crappy White Sox team.

It’s been said on here before and I feel like people ignore it, but things are never as good as they seem and they are never as bad as they seem. I still think we are mediocre. Our best performance can’t compete with the Braves best performance. Can we beat them on a given day? Sure. That doesn’t mean we are better than them. I expect them to sweep us. Maybe we have a shot Sunday with Steele pitching. I’m not trying to be negative, just taking my fan glasses off and calling it like I see it. I want the Cubs to win every game. I just don’t think this team is deep enough. It’s really 4 solid bats and the rest are decent enough. 1 very good starter, 1 solid starter, and the rest are pretty meh. 1 very good reliever and 2-3 more solid relievers. That’s about it.

ESPN has their next to starters as Bryce Elder and Charlie Morton

This was a let down game if there ever is such a thing.

They played a division rival four games, late.

If I could have bet money, I would have put a lot on the Braves.

The somehow is the part that needs to be figured out.  I have no idea how pretty much all of their players signed long term mostly under market extensions to play in some generic ballpark in a suburb of Atlanta for the majority of their careers.

I don't think that they were under market extensions.  They were under FA market, but not under extension market.

Looks like it’s Bryce Elder v Javier Assad, and the Chuck Morton v Ace Miller.

Small consolation they don’t face Strider.

Glad I spent my afternoon with the Grandson over watching this one, have a feeling tomorrow gonna be close to the same..  hope not, they got to get at least one this series and it would be nice going into Sunday with Steele and a chance to take 2.
