If all things being equal (money, competitiveness etc) and you were Ohtani, where would you choose to live? LA, SF, Chi or Tor?

I think I’d choose Toronto if those were the choices.

Of those cities I would choose Chicago. Best big city in the country and top 5 city in the world.

It was always a long shot and it still is. Nothing has changed. I think Jed was pissed that the wrong story got leaked. It's an easy narrative to write because that has been their stated MO and there is ample evidence to support it. However, maybe not with Ohtani. Who knows? Ohtani has all the power and I love it, a win for labor.

He was actually mad about Morel, not Ohtani

Levine said on the radio Bob told him Jed was mad about Morel’s name being out there for Glasnow

Whether or not that is the whole story, I can understand that one.  Especially if Morel is being looked at as a key piece in a larger trade, you don't want him devalued by linking him to guys like Glasnow.

I think the whole secrecy crap is being blow way out of proportion.  To me, he doesn't want people to know where, when, and for how long he's meeting with teams.  He wants it kept under wraps.  After the meeting happened, I don't think it matters anymore.  If he doesn't go to the Dodgers because Roberts said that they had a meeting after the fact, maybe there's something wrong with Ohtani

There is nothing wrong with being an introvert.

People bashed LeBron so hard for his decision TV show and that on stage celebration they did when he was a free agent and now people are bashing Ohtani for doing the exact opposite. The people doing this are the weird ones.

I'm certainly not bashing him for wanting the process to be covert.  I'm saying that if the meeting already happened,  and the whole world already know the LAD are the favorites, I don't see how he could hold it against a team after the fact.  It's not like Roberts said that "we will be meeting with Ohtani."  He said that they met already.  I don't see an issue with that.  I would however see an issue with him talking about a meeting before it happened, if Ohtani doesn't want that.

The media is trying like hell to make this a story, and get some clicks, and that's understandable, but I really don't think any of them have any idea right now.

The headline should read:

I'm Pissed That I'm This Big, Important Reporter And Don't Know Squat About What's Happening

This!  Let the man handle his free agency the way he wants.  If he made a big spectacle about it like LeBron did they'd probably bash him for that too.

Exactly this.

Sounds biased but ok lol

Chicago named ‘Best Big City in the US' by Condé Nast Traveler for 7th consecutive year

Well maybe I am biased, but 7 years in a row being named best big city in the US is pretty impressive.

Per Morosi:

Ohtani will decide before the end of the weekend.

Yeah yesterday when Dave Roberts started blabbing it really started to feel like this was just about over.  Teams probably submitted their formal offers when they did their in-person meetups.  There'll be a day or three of Shohei sleeping on it and a day or three of additional haggling but it should be pretty close to done?

Agreed. This feels about finished up. Probably why we're seeing Soto moving now, why Yamamoto is moving a bit now, and why yesterday the Cubs seemed to be more and more on the "outs".

Chicago's great but there's a world of difference between living in a somewhere as someone making like $50k a year and living somewhere making $50M a year.  Chicago does not have anywhere near the same caliber of super-high-end amenities to cater to the ultra rich that New York, San Fran, or LA does.  It also, if this matters to Shohei, does not really have much of a concentrated Japanese community.  And of course our winters are awful.

Like it's very reasonable that he looks at Chicago and goes "nah I'm good."

Lot of ifs coming up, so warning

If he signs with LA or the Blue Jays, and if it's true that Counsell never got a chat, that is very bad. I mean, he could have just decided he wasn't interested in the Cubs, which is fine. But the bad part is the Cubs pretending they were in it. There is no shame in saying, we gave our best and he was really set on other suiters and we are moving on to other opportunities.

The LeBron thing was a self involved disgrace by him.  Nobody wants that.  But the point is to just let it play out like a free agent signing does.  I mean, it's reported that teams were threatened that they would be out if they talked.  Now THAT'S a joke!

Should we assume that you are enjoying these winter meetings as a fan ?

I'm not super enjoying it as a fan. But doesn't it feel a bit...entitled, as fans, to demand players to use this time for our entertainment, as well? They aren't being paid for their production during this dog and pony show. At some point, I think we have to remember they're people. this is their offseason, and this is their lives.

I'd like it to be more fun for me, but I'm not the main character either.

This offseason went straight to hell pretty quickly .  I would expect them to engage with Candelario now . Should cost less than Chapman and with the lack of lefty bats , I could see it . I don’t love it , but I think it’s. Possibility . Would imagine Bellinger gets a big deal with Tor / Sea / SF if Ohtani picks dodgers

Ohtani's job is to play baseball wherever he ends up signing. He doesn't owe anything to random baseball fans sitting at home refreshing twitter. Bagging on the guy for asking that his professional negotiations  stay professional is wha'ts a joke.

Seriously. Entitled is the right word.

I certainly don't expect them to feel like they have to entertain us fans in December.  But I certainly don't expect a player to hide, and make threats of not picking them if a team talked about their meetings.  It's just so bad.  At least for me it is.  It's a ridiculous dog and pony show.  It's a great way for fans to dislike the player and the winter meetings.  Which we all look forward to from the time the season ends.

I'll stay on this hill alone about not liking the way that he's handled this.
