Alzolay has pitched a couple games in a row. As strong as Leiter looked there, I’d bring him back for the 9th.

Well, I guess if Adbert only needs 10 pitches to pick up the save, maybe I shouldn’t worry about it.

That was a good one.  I'm still pretty skeptical about not selling and trying to compete with this roster, but this is a fun run. Keep streaking and make Jed's job difficult.

Another mostly bad day for other results.

The Reds did lose, but at the expense of the Brewers.  Cubs remain 6 gb in the Central

The Diamondbacks also lost, but the Marlins and Phillies won and the Giants are leading late, so assuming the Giants win, the Cubs will gain 0.5 games in the Wild Card and finish the night 4.5 GB

Cant believe the Diamondbacks are out of a playoff spot currently.  5-14 this month for them.

Crazy game. Nice Dub.

I almost feel bad for the Sox, almost...

still want them to trade Stroman but man Belli is making it hard for me to want to see him go.

What a huge win

Need 3 of 4 this weekend

Rogers says 2-2 probably moves them into the buyers group FWIW

If the are going to buy, I really hope its not for a mid season rental.

Arbitrary endpoints and all, but they're 23-15 since June 9th (first win after the sweep to the Angels).  That's .605 ball or a 98 win pace, with one of the league's easiest schedules coming up.

It wouldn't be a Cubs-White Sox game without one.

Classic.

My uncle used to have Sox season tickets and would take me and my dad to a Cubs/Sox game every year on the south side. Ive been to alot of live sporting events, these games were easily the nastiest I saw fans treat each other. Just terrible behavior all around. This was back when the rivalry was really heated in the early to mid 2000's.

One thing this year's team can do (that last year's couldn't) is score runs without the home run. No one on the team is close to 20 HR for the year, but the RD is almost +50 and the team has scored 10+ a bunch of times.

Maybe there's no need to buy or sell every trade deadline, and the Cubs should look to make moves that make the team better long term rather than look to go either all in or tear it all down.

If the market for Stroman is insane, sure, go ahead and pull the trigger on a long term benefit. On the flip side, if you can pick up a solid SP or 3B or 1B without sacrificing any long term team value, maybe you do that.

Even that 23-15 stretch includes a stretch in the middle where they lost 7 of 8.

And bolstered by winning 7 of their last 8.

After Stroman gave up a double in the 4th inning, the bullpen retired 17 of the next 18 batters, striking out 4 and walking none. Unsung heroes of the game.

And injuries to their two best position players

After the Cardinals series the schedule gets a bit dicey until August 13th. After that very easy.  Maybe they can pull this off

You can absolutely sell with an eye on next year. Trade from prospect depth to also help next years team. I don’t see Jed selling to get a 19 year old in A ball. I’m not sure he has enough job security for that anyways. He needs to put a legit winner on the field like next year. Theo had a 97 win team in his 4th year after a full tear down. Next year is year 4 for Jed.

I like the catcher the WS got back in the Giolito trade. Not having a great year this year as a 20 year old in AA but he was pretty dang good last year. He’s a 50 FV prospect. Walks as much as he strikes out and has a little pop. Still a work in progress, but not bad for Giolito and Lopez.

I dont know, I just feel like if they stand pat or just add a couple of guys, it still won't be enough.

I just feel like they have another bad streak or two left in them that'll knock them out of any playoff hope
