Them turning around their season the second we showed up on the schedule was among the most predictable things ever. I don't gamble but I should've acted on whatever their division odds were going into that series

I got it at +600 after Game 1 of the series. Was more of an emotional hedge bet but also our division sucks and 87 wins might win it.

Some perspective on this that won't help with all the baseball-related annoyance but is still useful.  No division winner in the last 10 years has won 87 games, only 3 out of the last 60 won 88 and the rest won 90+.  Even after a 7-1 hot streak, in order for the Cardinals to win 88 games they still need to play at a 96 win pace the rest of the season.  To be in the wild card conversation, which last year required 87 wins but could drop as low as 84 based on past standings, they need to play at a 91 win pace the rest of the year.

I’m guessing any effect will be fairly small but I wonder if the more balanced schedule will change this at all. If our division does stink as it appears to, instead of 19 games against each one you only get 12-13. So for the “best” team in the division it could suppress the win total a bit.

Doesn’t change the math of the pace the Cards need to play at just to get to 88 wins of course.
