The 2016 Cubs only did it 10 times. 2017 was 18 times and 2018 was 17 times though.

so, um, uh, meaningless statistic?

The Cubs lead the NL in AVG, OBP, SLG, wOBA, and wRC+ and are 2nd to the Rays in MLB in all of them

The Cubs also lead the NL(and are 3rd in MLB) in SB, I apologize for the oversight

They just did the 'McNugget' of the game and it turns out this is the new modern-day franchise record. The only other time they did it was 1885.

5.61 runs per game vs 4.09 last year. around 5 in 2017 and 2016 though no DH those years.

I don't remember everything, especially anymore, but I'm pretty sure no Cub since I've been following the team (close to 25 years) has taken a perfect game this far.

Will Ross extend him enough to finish?  93 pitches so far. I'm assuming if he makes it through the 8th under like 110 pitches he'll get a shot to finish

So much for that.

Smyly probably wasn't going to get him anyway but it's too bad Gomes didn't let him take a crack at it.

Jeez, that's a terrible way to lose a perfecto. That's a rough break if there ever was one...

I think Gomes probably had a better shot to get him tbh.  Would have been a really tough for Smyly

like WTF is Gomes doing?  it looked like he was trying to tackle him lmao

instinctually he sees Smyly moving to Gomes' left and so 'getting out of the way' in that moment is moving to the right, even though Smyly is stopping and turning back that way

Did Jake not get close in either 14 or 15? I know he had a few games where he had no hitters through like 5 or 6 but can’t remember if any were perfect or for how long.

I Googled 'Arrieta perfect game bid' and a YouTube clip from 2014 came up when he took one into the 7th against the Reds. I don't think he ever got closer than that.

ETA - He apparently also had one into the 7th against Pittsburgh once.

There was the one in Fenway where he got to like the 8th right?  I can't recall if that was a no-no or perfect game.

EDIT: It was a no-hitter, he walked a guy in the 5th: https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/BOS/BOS201406300.shtml

I seem to remember Ted Lilly took a perfecto late into the game but i could be wrong

Edit: maybe it was just a no hitter
