Illinois had a team manager suited up for last night's game they're effectively so thin on ball handlers. I was concerned what they'd do to last the year, but apparently this is a thing that can be done now:

Does that mean he's joining the team and playing this year?

He's planning to join for the spring semester, which would have him join the team right away. As for playing, who knows?

Assume he will play very little. Maybe by the end of the year they'd feel more comfortable giving him 5-7 minutes? But jumping into CBB in the middle of the Big Ten schedule is rough.

I am going to just assume IU loses to PSU tonight. Prove me wrong, Hoosiers.

Or not. #-o

Such a promising season down the drain.

I get that Xavier and Race both being out is a huge impediment but cripe sake this team was supposed to be deep and that feels like a lie at this point. Should they really be like the 13th best team in the league due to two injuries? Meh.

Bizarre statline for Terrence Shannon tonight: scored 17 of the first 19 points for Illinois, and then never scored again in the game.

15 of the first 19. His last 2 points were the last 2 points of the game on free throws when MSU was fouling intentionally.

The new/old offense Illinois has installed seems to be agreeing with them. 4 straight wins and a couple blowouts.

And the guy who was point guard for the first half of the season no longer being on the team seems to have helped the offense, too.

I have no idea what the full story is, but the whispers of a toxic locker room have all gone quiet.

Purdue is incredibly overrated. This number #3 PG stinks and seemingly plays the whole game and controls the game tempo for them and touches the ball so much, the other white forward/guards suck too. And the big guy is a stiff, he can’t create horsefeathers for himself and probably is playing overseas next year, don’t think he’s an NBA player. Their record is almost entirely because the BIG sucks and they’ve had a weak schedule. Wouldn’t be surprised if they’re a round 2 exit and would be shocked if they make it past round 3.

Today is a great day ... My two favorite teams are Indiana and anyone that beats Purdue. :yahoo:

Wow... what a complete garbage take.

They literally have the 21st most difficult schedule. They are the KenPom #1 rated offense in the country and the #20 rated defense. They have wins against #12 Gonzaga and #14 Marquette.

Edey is consistent with his low post game. He is almost automatic if he's not double teamed. I wouldn't dare say he's an NBA talent, but he's a dominant NCAA baller. He's a matchup nightmare for 95% of college teams. The other 5% are only able to limit the damage.

If you're judging Smith off of just the IU game, your lazy. If you're judging him on his full resume, you're just flat out wrong. He's been great all year long and had a poor game.

No need to blow things out of proportion here. Give IU and Woodson a lot of credit. They had a great game plan and executed it well. That in no way discredits Purdue and their accomplishments. They did not play their best game in a hostile Assembly Hall. These things happen in college basketball.

After that PSU loss if you would told me IU would win 6 of the next 7 games with double digit wins over Wisconsin, Illinois, Sparty and also beating Purdue...yeah, no way I would have bought any of that. lol

I think they’re incredibly mediocre and very beatable, but in a year where there’s no good teams and everyone is on the spectrum of suck maybe they sneak through but I am not a fan of what I saw yesterday (granted haven’t watched them much).

Edey appears to be way too slow for the NBA, even for a big, can he shoot the three? Appears to have good form on FT's but, don't think I've ever seen him shot a three. Slowness is Dickinson' problem as well, but he can hit a three and appears to have better post-up game. A good portion of Edey success is him being so much taller than everyone.

No, Edey cannot shoot the 3 at all. And if he was merely 7' instead of 7'4'' he would be very good rather than great. He'd still probably be right there with TJD as the best big in the conference, but he would not be so dominant because he wouldn't get to freely elbow guys in the head.

And if NBA teams have doubts about how his game will translate to the professional level, perhaps he stays for his senior year, and Purdue returns not only the front-runner for national player of the year, but also returns every single other player that gets any kind of regular playing time this season, except Jenkins. In addition, they currently have a 7'2 center redshirting this year, and it would be great for him to get some quality minutes backing up Edey next season.

I think it's easy for people to overlook the fact that the starting point guard and shooting guard are both true freshmen. And while the IU game wasn't going on Smith's highlight reel, he has been phenomenal as a freshman starting point guard this year.

Except he doesn't freely elbow guys in the head. Last year was a different story, but he's been much more under control this season on both ends of the court. The guy doesn't get into foul trouble because he changed his defensive style of play. On offense, he's gone to the right hook a lot more this year and isn't leading with his elbows nor lowering his shoulder into people.

And yeah, if he was four inches shorter he wouldn't be as dominant. But the fact remains that he is 7'4 and has progressed tremendously for a guy that's only been playing for 5.5 years.

I'll admit I haven't watched him as much this year, so if he's gone less brute force, then good on him and Painter cleaning that up. And he is very talented and certainly worthy of the praise he receives. I was just pointing out that those 4 inches make a huge difference - and he uses them to his advantage very well.
