The 'FREE DUBOIS' movement seems null at this point, since its the last game of the season and he's finally starting. Triple, HR, and a deep fly-out so far, I think hes showing that he has the stuff. Hop on this off-season, its what all the cool kids are doing.

I was on the Free Dubois movement. I'm definitely calling shotgun on the Jason Dubois BandWGN. I've been wanting to see him get more playing time compared to the likes of Tom Goodwin and Jose Macias. Way to go, JD!

He's looking good today but I sure would be curious to see how he did in a critical game down the stretch instead of in a game that is meaningless.

I would like to have found out how he did in crucial games, as opposed to Jose Macias.

Kind of like the rest of the team? Scoring runs in the final two games when they don't matter.

I don't see how it could have hurt starting him in the Mets series to give Sammy and Alou a day off for the home stretch.

I believe everyone expected Sosa to at least somewhat pull out of his abysmal second half. He never really did.

Most teams are not going to play a rookie with less than 20 Major League at bats in the last few weeks of a tight Wild Card race. That is understandable. However, Dubois should never have been in the position to not have at bats by that point in the season. That is why you get the young guys at bats early in the year. Test their mettle then so you know if they will be reliable later on. Give your veterans breaks and days off early on so they are not gassed and can make a strong run of games at the end. Dusty did not do that and that was a major failing.

Barring a blockbuster move (such as signing Beltran), I will be very disappointed if Dubois doesn't get a fair chance to at least win a platoon job, if not the starting job outright.

Yup. You really have to wonder if the Cubs couldn't have won a few more games if Dubois had gotten all the OF playing time that went to Macias and Goodwin. As long as we have Dusty Baker managing we'll have "what ifs" like this at the end of the season.

I would love for Dubois to be the starting left or right fielder in 2006. I would rather have Drew or Beltran starting next year, with Dubois making enough starts (definitely when Drew or Sosa is hurt) to have 250 at-bats in 2005. I would like to see him playing everyday in 2006 when Sosa's contract isn't re-newed. I would guess his playing time depends on who our ss and 2nd baseman are, and depending how much money the Cubs would have to spend or not spend on a left fielder.

I agree wholeheartedly.

However if we don't bring in a Drew or Beltran next year (and choose to spend the money at SS, 2B) then he should at least get a chance to platoon with Hollandsworth next year.

He didn't look so good when they threw him that slider. Hey, I agree with giving kids a chance to prove themselves but this was not the time. They should get a solid LH bat to play LF next year and slot Dubois in there against some lefty starters when the match up is right. Based on that everyone will be able to make a better judgement on his ability to hit big league pitching instead of betting the season on the fact he is ready. Alou had a lot of production to replace.

Agreed as well, the chance to get a OF of the quality of Drew and Beltran doesn't happen too often or enough for the Cubs to not get one of them. I would feel much more comfortable with Beltran or Drew already locked down as Patterson, Beltran/Drew, and Dubois than having Dubois, Patterson, and a FA heading into 06'.

Is your anti-Baker bias that strong? Or did you miss the games between late May - late August when our bullpen blew many, many, many 6th, 7th and 8th inning leads. I hated Macias and Goodwin playing, too, but Dubois playing didn't cost us nearly the number of games as our bullpen did. It would've been nice if Hendry would've improved a glaring weakness we had for 3/4 of the season - the bullpen.

I sat in the leftfield bleachers today, and upon hearing that Dubois was starting promptly told everyone he was going to hit one out.

That either makes me or Jason the man.

Hawkinsruined2k4, I read your signature and just want you to not feel too bad. You think you had bad luck seeing games in 2004? I went to 6 this season and the Cubs went 2-4...but just listen to these losses.

April @ Wrigley - Loss vs Colorado: We scored three runs...on three homers. C-Pat struck out with tying run on third (Only loss to Rockies this season)

June 23 @ Busch Stadium - Loss - Cubbies were leading 9-5...only to implode and lose 10-9. THAT was a tough game to stomach, especially in St.Louis

August 18 @ Miller Park - Win - Cubs win in extra innings on a Corey Patterson homer (oddly enough, the last game I went to at Miller Park was in 2003 when the Cubs won in 17 inns on a...Corey Patterson homer. Weird...)

August 21 @ Minute Maid Park - Loss- Backe and Prior pitched awesome and the Cubs rallied in the 9th to lead. BUT, Hawkins blew the save...this was also tough to take in a rivals ballpark (only loss that series)

September 18 @ Great American Ball Park - Loss - Cubs were leading, but Maddux imploded against the Reds. Grudzielanek got thrown out at the plate in a disheartening loss (only loss that series)

September 19 @ GABP - Win - Rusch was dominating.

I did see some good wins, but I was there for two of the games that many say turned the Cubs season around :( I dont get it! Normally the Cubs do pretty well when I go to games lol.

Didn't have a chance to look up the game thread, but I haven't seen him being mentioned by himself either. What were the thoughts on his performance from yesterday? I know he struggled when PH'ing, but did he look comfortable when playing a full game? Any thoughts or discussion on the probablility of him seeing significant playing time next year?

He rocked. He mashed a two run triple and a two-run blast to center. He looked completely comfortable.

It's a shame that he ROTTED on the bench for most of the season.

Was yesterday his first major league start? I cannot remember if he ever started a game under Dusty. To bad it had to be for all the wrong reasons.

When he was up in May (june?), he got a start in the back half of a double header.

I'd be fine with Dubois as our starting LF (or RF) next year...if an impact player is added somewhere else. Jason's problem is that he's another right handed power hitter in a lineup replete with them.

Two points of interest to those who didn't see the game. Jason's triple went opposite field into the well. And, his homer went an estimated 440' to staight away center (maybe a little to the right). Not shabby.
