Is there a good reason the NFL doesn't just add an extra bye week/extra week of the season and just give the bye to the two teams playing on Thursday the following week? You don't add any extra games and instead, you're actually giving the players more rest. Plus you get an extra week of ad revenue because you have an extra weekend of football.

Like it seems like such an obvious win-win for the NFL since they make more money while they can talk about how they care about player safety and not making them play a game on three days rest, regardless of whether or not they actually care. And while I'm sure the players would resist a bit for something in return, it shouldn't be that big of a deal to them either.

We've been complaining about how awful and sloppy these Thursday games are for years now and there's an easy fix just sitting out there.

That makes too much sense.

They talked about this or something similar. If they added a second bye, the season would go to the end of February. Moving Week 1 up to Labor Day weekend isn't something they want to do either.

Why don't they want to move games to Labor Day weekend? Seems like a no-brainer to me

I'm sure there's some data they have that indicates people don't watch as much TV Labor Day weekend, but the NFL basically owns the country to a large extent. They'd adjust. Also, the season did at one point start before Labor Day (granted the last time was 2000, so a lifetime ago in terms of TV rights and such). It's not like it's unprecedented.

Talking about safety issues acknowledges safety issues which probably makes it some kind of legal bs, maybe?

You just say something how you’re listening to the players and think it’s better for their recovery to not play one game only four days after another game. Say you think it’s better for the product on the field too (which would be true) since you’re giving teams more time to prepare.

Wait a second here, GB OL can't keep the Jets consistently off Aaron Rodgers and he's, gulp, struggling? WTF, he sucks, just Justin Fields, oh no wait, he's Aaron Rodgers and shouldn't matter if he's under constant pressure, right?

You make a good point. Plus the ST fail. Very Bears-like.

Still a lot of time left though.

Oh my god are the Packers finally Bad? Of course if they are, it would happen in a year where the Bears are in full collapse mode.

Still, would be nice if they were Bad and were Bad for a prolonged period of time

They've played the easier part of their schedule too.

I wouldn't be so quick to brand them as bad, they still have Rodgers and, I'm certain the piss yellow and green pixie dust will work its magic and the OL will improve.

lol Rodgers sucks now and his entire career is a sham

i mean he's still one of the greatest qbs of all time and that'll never be taken away from him but its about time he goes away forever

its only fair that green bay now suffers 30 years of pain and irrelevance, like we have (will that happen? of course not, even if they have a tough season this year they'll magically acquire and develop the next greatest QB of all time)

Seriously, why is Rodgers considered one of the goats? He’s been really, really good but his teams have flopped in the playoffs all but one season. How is he better than say, Stafford, who’s never been in the same conversation?

Why not both?

His numbers have been great, probably the greatest statistical QB. However, he'll be remembered for his playoff failures as much as his lone SB win.

Last year with a ton of talent around him Stafford still led the league in picks thrown with 17. Aaron Rodgers played 64 games the last four seasons and threw 15 interceptions total. Stafford is a fine QB but to mention him in the same breath as Rodgers is laughable.

Is Drew Brees basically the same as Matt Stafford too? His teams flopped in the playoffs in all but one season.

Peyton Manning was also dogged for his supposed playoff 'ineptitude' before he took one down (with some thanks to the Bears) and then another with the Broncos.

I dunno, there's no way to settle these arguments without relying a little bit on subjectivity and perception, and I know when I watch Rodgers I'm watching one of the greats (he also happens to be a whiny baby but that shouldn't factor in, in my mind)
