the phillies blew this series

How? Houston is the team that blew a 5-0 lead in Game 1.

Also obligatory “the series isn’t over yet”.

Game isn’t over yet either lol

I mean, I get it. There’s no chance - and I mean NO CHANCE - a dominant Astros team would ever lose Games 6 and 7 at home in the World Series to a far inferior NL East team. So tonight really is it for the Phillies.

of course it's not over, but their chances just plummeted. the phillies had them in the ropes, now they have to win 2 on the road. 0 for 20 plus in a row with risp is pretty cub like. Edited by 17 Seconds

I started responding and then I realized you are probably making a funny and know about the 2019 Nationals

Alvarado pretty much sunk 2 games now

Hindsight 20/20 obviously, but they should have stuck with Wheeler there. He may have been fading a bit, but I'd still take his stuff over anyone in the Phillies pen.

The Alvarez bomb was my fault. I was on the phone with my Dad and saying "Alvarez hasn't done anything since the Mariners series" mere moments before

As much as I dislike Dusty Baker from his time with the Cubs, he has done what I didn't think he was capable of. He has adapted his managing style and removed any doubt as to whether he is a Hall of Famer. It helps to be managing a great team, but Dusty still deserves some credit.

Maybe I’m just soft but I’m happy for Dusty. The anger from his cubs tenure is still there but the guy has gotten so close so many times. Clearly hanging on continuing to manage so that he could win one. Maybe he can retire now

That said I would have completely relished another Dusty team choking

imagine your team having that kind of postseason and coming away with nothing

Phillies seem very 2017-2020 Cubs to me. Feast or famine offense. At the end of the season when we played them the offense was struggling big time. Then the playoffs started and they caught fire before nosediving again halfway through the World Series.

The city of Houston finally has a championship without an asterisk.

I thought they were cheating with their pitchers before the trash can crap even came out. And frankly as great as he is I'm still very skeptical that Justin Verlander is pitching the best baseball of his life at age 38 or whatever he is without any weird horsefeathers happening.

Yes. It also might be a little bit of Houston figuring out Phillies hitters too.

Anyway, I’m happy for Dusty.

some astros fans (and josh reddick) are throwing the dynasty term around. even if the first one counts as legit, how are they a dynasty?

In the last 6 years:

5 division titles (the one miss was 2020)

6 ALCS apps

4 pennants (one of the two misses was 2020)

2 World Series (assuming no issues with 2017)

It's an arbitrary term, but if those were my team's credentials I would probably be using it.
