Heck yeah. Run it back, contend for the play-in game to ensure good crowds and get that sweet, sweet luxury tax money from the league..

Next move: add Derrick Rose just in case the fans are restless.

DRose is 100% happening. It's the exact same thing the Cubs did when they brought Arrieta back. Milk all that nostalgic good will, while providing an inferior on court product.

in a vacuum that's a pretty good deal

if zach is healthy at the start of the next season unlike last year, they'll probably be pretty good maybe even good enough to avoid the play in

that being said, it's a terrible move from a getting out of this rut standpoint

So more of the same thing that doesn't work, cool.

You are right that it's not going to work, but I don't think the Bulls had a ton of options here.  Due to them being over the cap and his salary cap hold, if they let Vuc walk they basically have like $8m to replace his production and stay under the tax.

The only other legitimate options were to work out a sign and trade which I would have been all for, or another tear it down rebuild that I can't mentally deal with right now.  But I really have no idea what was out there in the S+T market and whether it would have made the Bulls better.

If they weren't going to tear down the team, this was the 2nd best of the 3 realistic options.

I'd be at least a little excited about this if he actually played in the lane and gave up his Steph Curry dreams. He did that in the pre-season last year and looked really good. Then the season started and he reverted to jacking up 3's like that annoying teammate at the local rec center that you got stuck with because you needed a 5th to run.

He did reel it in a bit later in the year. Small sample size, but for the first 55 games he averaged 4.7 3PA per game; after that, 3.3. I can live with that volume if he can carry that over to next year.

So after the draft night trade, the Bulls will not have another 2nd round pick until 2028. That absolutely blows my mind.

But look at what they have to show for it!

42% from 3 on 4 attempts per game.  Not quite a sharp shooter but I'll take it.  The Bulls have to be going over the tax at this point right?

Edit: I guess they are still under and are still able to afford Ayo if he takes the QO

Great signing.

another "good in a vacuum" deal

Nice signing. Still $9 million below the luxury tax but now they're hard capped.

Coby White back for 3/$40.

Heading into unsubtantiated rumors section of the offseason, but there's a twitter account called "DroppingDimes" that has been eerily accurate with rumors on the draft and FA so far this offseason, randomly tweeted "Zach LaVine" and about 5 minutes later deactivated his account lol.

If you put stuff together, Dame has requested a trade and wants Miami, Portland is demanding star level player(s) in return, Miami is offering guys like Herro and Duncan Robinson, and suggestions are a 3rd team will need to be involved if he goes to Miami.

Maybe

POR: LaVine

CHI: Herro, Robinson

MIA: Dame

Obviously with filler and picks and stuff.  TBH I like Zach but I wouldn't mind shaking up the dynamic of the team.  Not in love with a Herro and Robinson return though.

Bulls applied for an injured player exemption for Lonzo. Not sure I understand why

-It doesn’t give us relief from the luxury tax

-we can’t apply for medical retirement this season, which would give us relief from the tax

-The way the Bulls payroll is at, they can’t really use the exemption without going over the tax.

Only thing I can think of is that they want the exemption to make a trade?  I’m not even sure if that’s a thing

all that talk from AK at that presser and it ends up being 2 role players? i do not understand how they could seriously stick with this core again. this could end up being one of the worst front offices in recent chicago sports history. what they're doing is that inexplicable.

Not surprised at all. They’ve made it clear they don’t want to tank and are fine with being an average non-contender and hoping something falls into their laps to make them a contender.  I think they were legitimately trying to trade Zach but they’re gun shy for whatever reason.  They probably also legitimately believe in the 14-9 record with Beverly and think that adding a PG with a pulse is enough to make them a good team.

Torrey Craig is a nice signing. We needed better 3 point shooting and perimeter defense. They addressed those needs with Carter and Craig. Rebuilding was likely the better route, but pretty happy with the moves made. All below market 2-3 year deals should make this easier to blow up and get something in return when the time is right.

I just think they can't get nearly enough for Zach to make them feel like it's worth it.  He's not good enough that a bad team is going to give up lots of picks, and most of the good teams won't give up good young players in return.  Best you're going to get is far off draft picks and lottery ticket-type players, and I'm sure Reinsdorf isn't interested in that because they're almost a playoff team with what they've got, and can stumble their way into that sweet extra playoff revenue.

I like these moves and I would like them even more if they managed to trade DeRozan and bring in more high-volume 3 shooters.

Love the guy but we need more guys to kick up the pace.

Agreed.  I get that the FO doesn't want to tank, but I'd like to see them at least shop DeRozan to some contenders.  DeRozan seems like a heavy usage guy on the Bulls put he's proven before he can still be successful in a lower usage role.  There has to be at least a couple of contenders that see DeRozan as a piece to put them over the top and are willing to overlook things like age and remainder on contract because they want to win now.  There's really not a huge benefit to the Bulls hanging onto DeRozan and letting his contract expire, nor is there a huge benefit to an extension.  Perhaps AKME is looking at the deadline as a better time to move him, but I'd like to break up the Zach/DeMar/Vuc big three and try to reinvent this team as a team with more shooters and tough defenders.
