Feeling good about this game.

Woulda been nicer to see Fields get a chance to tie it up, but he played really well in the second half. And the bad players played *exceptionally* badly, which is good! Hopefully it forces the front office to cut them!

Actually should just let them score here

They have 2 TO plus the 2 min warning. Think there’s still value in trying to hold for a FG

There's like, a 5% chance you stop them

It’s worth it IMO. They had plenty of time and the chances are much higher that the Bears score a FG with 1:30 left and 0 TO than a TD with 2:30 left and 2 TO

After the Texans win I said I felt as bad as I could after a win. This week I’m feeling positive after a loss.

That said, I missed most of the second half. Did fields really look as good as his stats say? QB rating is flawed but he had a 118.8 rating which I believe is his first 100 rating game.

He looked very solid. He did all the things he needed to do. Checked down a lot but that's fine

Yeah hard not to feel good about this one. Fields was good, maybe very good depending on who's fault that early missed TD to Mooney was. The non-Mustipher parts of the O-line were good. The defense, particularly the secondary, was apocalyptically bad in the first half but got their horsefeathers together and rebounded really well. Kyler Gordon was finally looking like a guy the last ~third of the game.

There's also the soft stuff. The team coming back like they did says great things about them. Once again the halftime adjustments were noticeable and impactful.

With Fields playing well Eberfluss and Getsy started showing some stones. Etc Just really encouraging stuff pretty much all around.

There was some good stuff but 30 minutes of good football and another 30 of comically bad football isn’t something I’m going to try to hang my hat on.

Looks like ESPN's QBR gave Fields a 76.8 today. That's a really high mark. For reference Lamar Jackson, Pat Mahomes, and Josh Allen are all between 79 and 81 YTD. Curious to see where PFF comes out.

He definitely passed the eye test. He made a lot of really good decisions and anticipated the rush exceptionally well a couple times. The one reverse spin move out of the pocket where he essentially left 2 Vikings defenders grasping at air was impressive as hell.

This very much looked like him finally feeling comfortable with where guys are going to be and when they're going to be there. I can't say I'm surprised it's taken a bit with a young QB learning a new offense. I really would have liked to see them let him make a play instead of a run up the middle on 3rd down before the last FG.

It was 2 completely different football teams wearing the same jerseys. That included Fields but there were other things too like the defense holding MIN off the board until that final drive (which was soul-sucking but whatever).

That was the best QB rating game of Fields' career. First time over 100. Highest completion % in a single game.

12-13, 135 yards and a TD. 5 carries, 36 yards (52 more called back bogusly).

Solid performance, but nothing we really haven't seen before (Pittsburgh, SF). Be nice to see him put together a full game of this type of performance, but probably not likely. Ultimately, I guess this shows what people wanted. Good QB performance brought down by a bad team around him (drops, fumbles, blocking still bad). Hopefully, this is something to build on and they'll be right back at it on Thursday.

is fighting for an extra six seconds when the clock is your enemy HITS

One of those things was supposed to stand for smart right?

smart situationally so maybe it was the wrong time to be smart

As an Iowa fan it hasn’t been a good season of football to watch with Ferentz on his BS. Then to have ISM involved in 2 big game losing plays. ISM can be electrifying, but was always a little reckless. Wish Fields would’ve had a chance to finish off the drive..

...he just did put in a full game of that performance.

Also, I'm confused by your numbers, ESPN has him at:

Do you mean second half?

Yeah, sorry. That was just the 2nd half. And yeah, that makes 3-8, 73 yards in the 1st half which isn't a full game performance, though can argue had 3 that could have been caught that really make those numbers look great.

After watching the highlights, it seems like he got good pass protection in the 2nd half. But the plays he was pressured he knew where his checkdowns were and hit them immediately. This seems like a super positive sign that the game is slowing down for him and he’s not panicking every time he feels pressure. He might have scrambled a few times when he may have found passes downfield but the Vikings were struggling to contain him so that’s absolutely the right move.

Very encouraging, hopefully we can see it again on a short week.

Makes sense.

I'm encouraged by the "not rock bottom" 1st half followed by a genuinely good/great second. That type of QB play would keep a team in every game. I don't think he has to light up the scoreboard all game every game in order to be what we hope for, but if his baseline is competent QB play, he's bound to have some big games down the road by stitching two great half's together. He certainly has the talent

Quick observations. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I felt like Jenkins played a lot more which, along with Montgomery, helped the blocking a lot. Honestly if they could just get someone who was even remotely close to sniffing average over Mustipher, I think the line would be Okish. Kyler Gordon actually looked good in the 2nd half after being completely miserable the first 4.5 games. Dominque Robinson continues to impress. I can't believe that was Vildor's first interception and it was 1/3 of the way through his 3rd season. Fields wasn't pinpoint but he threw them close enough where there were more catches that should have been made. His pocket awareness was drastically better. I hated the run on 3rd and 3 in the red zone. Going for 2 in the early 3rd quarter and the following onside kick made little sense.

Agree. Very encouraging to see him step up and take those "cheap" completions on time, in rhythm, and without overthinking it or spending 4 seconds in the pocket before letting it rip.

Not going to co-sign that portion of Bears twitter mafia screaming from the rooftops "We've found ourselves a franchise QB!!!11!!111" but yesterday was indisputably a step in the right direction and a clear sign of improvement across several key areas.
