There's reportedly 4 out and 4 in

Villar off IL, Rivas to Iowa

Gomes off IL, Frazier DFA

Miley off IL, Stroman to IL

Martin off bereavement, Rucker to Iowa

Martin had been off the 40 man while on bereavement, hence the need for a DFA.

What a frustrating decision. Clint Frazier is likely never going to do much of anything but there are several completely useless players on the 40-man who could've been dumped instead. Even if you didn't want this to be the moment you got rid of Heyward, Andrelton Simmons comes immediately to mind.

but maybe heyward’s first 2,800 cub PAs were a mirage. gotta find out for sure.

He's under control for longer than Frazier. Have to find out what we have here and if he will be part of the Next Great Cubs Team TM

this is exactly it. no one expected a ton out of Frazier but there is no downside to keeping him. Heyward is aging and has had an OPS+ over 100 just 1 time in the last 7 seasons. Frazier is 27 and has actually hit well prior to last year when he was suffering from vertigo. You can rip on Frazier's defense but his dWAR is literally identical to Heyward's this season at -0.1, albeit with Heyward eating more innings. At an age of decline, atrocious hitting, below average fielding...I just don't get it except Heyward is a great guy that upgraded Ross to suites his final season.

What a horsefeathering horsefeathers run franchise. 45 PAs is all he got. And kept Jayson 6-4 Heyward.

Shortstop to second baseman is an unusual put out.

But yes. This is a stupid decision that is almost certainly driven because of sunk costs.

i'm mostly checked out on this season and there was little they could've done to piss me off this much but this is it.

I want to get worked up about this, but I can't.

The Cubs basically did Frazier a favor. He had as much trade value as Heyward, which is zero. As much as Simmons, which is also zero. Hell, he wouldn't even sweeten a deal involving Contreras or Happ. Even an all-star calibre six weeks of baseball wasn't going to change that.

But unlike Simmons, Frazier will be picked up. Good for him.

Didn't he also have shoulder surgery?

Yes, in April. Last I read the expectation is that he'll sign somewhere after the draft so he doesn't require pick compensation, and it's estimated he might be able to be back in the MLB lineup in September.

Ok that makes sense. I was wondering why he wasn’t picked up yet. He’d be a nice piece next year

Shocking that he wasn’t picked up. Losing a career .2 bWar player over 6 seasons just wasn’t in the cards.

PTR is pissed that he didn’t save the $800k remaining on his contract
