This is a horrible lazy comparison because they are both Japanese players, but I cant help drawing comparisons to Fukudome's start in 2008. Was hitting for power, drawing walks, taking great ABs. His numbers is Japan were fairly similar too except 1) Seiya's were a bit better and 2) Seiya was younger so more likely that he can actually hit like this full time.

Now smart people give me additional reasons why the comparison is not apt

There's a lot fewer secrets at this point. Current FOs have all the Statcast, video, etc. That they'd have for any domestic player. If Suzuki isn't bullied by MLB velo (so far so good there) there's not much to worry about. There's not gonna be "one weird trick" to get him out that gets discovered in two months.

Also he's five years younger, that helps a lot.

Happ is so locked in. I'd guess we can count on one hand the number of times he's had a multi-hit game right handed?

Do we think they'll waive the 5-year waiting period and induct Seiya into the Hall of Fame right after he retires or make him wait like all the schmucks?
