I know it's the end of the game but if that same play happened with 10 minutes left in the game, the refs call a foul. Good thing TCU didn't lose because of that.

Technically they did, would have been free throws

Personally I thought it was a backcourt violation. Miles got himself in deep horsefeathers and kinda flopped when he felt some contact trying to draw a whistle. Would have been awful to see him bailed out with FT’s at that point. And I say this as a fan of him as a player. First saw him play AAU ball 3 years ago. His team was stacked and he was only a 3* but he was the most impressive player that day in my opinion.

I thought the exact same thing in real time. Was surprised it wasn't called.

When exactly is the backcourt violation called? You don't usually see it when a guy is falling down which is why I ask. He clearly didn't have control of the ball when he went into the backcourt so were the refs right in allowing play to continue then since Arizona picked up the ball? Or do they just say he touched the ball in the backcourt therefore it's a violation?

He dribbled the ball in the backcourt before falling down, if it wasn't a foul it had to be a backcourt violation. Unless the defense deflects the ball, any touch of the ball in the backcourt by the offense is a violation. I also think his toe was on the halfcourt line just before the dribble which would also be a violation.

I'm not sure how applicable it is to the rest of the Big Ten, but effectively the in-conference strategy against Illinois in conference the past two years has been to just beat the horsefeathers out of them, the refs won't call everything.

After 20 games of that, turns out Illinois was beat up and not at 100% for the tournament.

I think the officiating needs to be tighter in conference to curb that kind of play, or else it just gets out of hand.

Yep, to that point, one of many examples of that "awesome" Houston defense -

This happened on more than one occasion leading to turnovers and extra possessions, it's a load of horsefeathers. Both opposing coaches pretty much said we're going to foul the crap out of them aka play "physical". I can horsefeathering guarantee they'll be called for that horsefeathers vs. Arizona, this subjective, inconsistent officiating tilts the field and effects game outcomes.

I saw his right foot touch the center court line before he fell down. That's why I thought it was a violation. The lack of a whistle actually ended up helping TCU though since the clock ran out before the ball was dunked. Had the call been made Arizona has the ball side out with a chance for one last shot.

was looking up Eli Brooks' recruiting class then fell down the rabbit hole to recall Kansas standout Jalen Coleman-Lands was in the same recruiting class as Ben Simmons, Donovan Mitchell, Luke Kennard, Mo Wagner lol, nobody loves the college experience more than this guy

Hasn't Bohannon been at Iowa for around 14 years now?

same class as Carsen Edwards, Zavier Simpson, Cassius Winston, amazing

Plus I always conflate him with all the other Bohannons and feel like the most recent one has been around forever.

JCL has one more year because he had a medical redshirt while at DePaul.

He was a big time recruit at Illinois. The first player signed out of Indiana in ages and something of a palate cleanser after the whole Eric Gordon fiasco. It was really disappointing when he transferred out, but not a huge surprise because of the coaching change. These things happen.

Moore was the same class as Mark Smith who just finished season 6 at Kansas State. I don’t remember the timing, but Moore was also an Illinois recruit that didn’t sign with Illinois, which left a roster spot for Smith. Smith played one unremarkable year at Illinois and then was one of at least three former Illini signees to go play at Missouri after Cuonzo Martin got hired there. Martin just got fired at Mizzou while Underwood has about as much job security as a college coach can ever expect.

I remember him being really disappointing, he was a really highly ranked out of HS. Couldn't create his own shot whatsoever, sorta small.

This one is good too:

4 years of college basketball, 4 teams. Would not be surprised if he transfers again. Dude changes teams more frequently than Reggie Sanders back in the day.

Edit: he actually might not have any more eligibility because he did not play in the COVID season. I'm guessing that means he doesn't get the added year of eligability.

Yeah, one or the other should have been called. Of course, TCU still had a timeout that they should have called once the guy got trapped in the corner.

And it didn’t end up mattering, but the clock briefly stopped at 2.2 seconds also. Would have been interesting had he got the dunk (or another shot) off with a couple tenths left.

Let me preface this by saying the following has a hint of conspiracy - When seeding, at times, it appears the NCAA wants to maintain certain narratives or themes, for example, aligning Illinois and Arizona for a potential match up or MSU and Duke. I don't know about an MSU fan's perspective but, this Illinois/Arizona thing is getting really horsefeathering tiresome, change the horsefeathering tune NCAA.

In the last 38 years, Arizona has made the Tourney 33 times and Illinois has made it 24. If seeding is completely random, they’re going to be in the same quadrant 1 out of every 4 years.

The other 1 seeds were Kansas coached by Bill Self, Gonzaga with Stephen Gentry and Roger Powell on the staff, and Baylor.

They were given 13 seed Chattanooga rather than 13 seed Akron coached by John Groce.

They were in a bracket with 2 seed Villanova rather than 2 seed Kentucky with Orlando Antigua and Chin Coleman on staff, 2 seed Auburn coached by Bruce Pearl, or 2 seed Duke coached by Chicago native Coach K.

No idea why Jamie Dixon didn't call a timeout there if he had one left. Monumentally stupid.

Maybe, its better to say, if they make the tournament next year, I'd like to see them in bracket without Arizona or Kansas.

Purdue destroys St Peters

Iowa St beats Miami

Not sure what to think of the Houston-Arizona game, but probably the best game Thurs-Fri
