I think Saban has been waiting for a reason to get rid of him. I bet Saban had him over for a few drinks and then phoned the sheriff on Golding's way home.

Looks like Harsin's clock is ticking

Absolutely no one at Auburn would care about this if they had been able to stop Bryce Young's final drive 2 months ago.

By all reports, Harsin is a major league douchebag who treats his players, subordinates, and the media like trash. His last hire lasted about a week. His DC took a job at OK State at the last minute and he can't recruit. My wife works for Auburn and the entire university system is a mess right now hemorrhaging money.

Was listening to a discussion on college football yesterday where they laid out the fact that since 2009, the University of Texas football program has had nearly identical results as Nebraska, with the major difference being that Texas has far better recruiting classes. It’s a damning indictment on just how bad Texas has been

Texas 83-67

Nebraska 81-68

That’s hilarious. The main difference is a wider range of results for Nebraska. They’ve won 10 games twice and 9 games four times in that span but also had a 3 win season and two 4 win seasons (I’m excluding 2020’s 3-5 record). Texas had only 1 10 win season and 1 9 win season but won at least 5 games every year.

It’s too bad they don’t have a decent game this year before they play Bama. Would have been funny for them to have a good 1st win to get people talking about them being back only for them to get tricked by Bama.

It’s not just record, but ppg, ppg allowed, etc.

All while Texas is pulling five-star recruits and Nebraska has had zero

I don't know any Texas fans so I have no idea their current level of delusion, but I find it hard to believe anyone not currently beating or at least competing with Bama is going to talk themselves into having a chance until they see it at this point. Heck, it only took my sometimes-overexcited fan base one Bama beatdown before we started bracing ourselves at the concept.

Their level of delusion is still maxed out. It’s laughable. They haven’t been able to compete in the Big 12 yet they think they’re going to walk into the SEC and succeed. Sark After Dark is the second coming of Darrel Royal in their eyes.

I meant more from the National media side. Anytime one of these programs that’s been good in the past but has been struggling starts well, there’s the “Are they back?” conversations. I know it’s hasn’t been but it seems like it happens almost every year with Texas. I know it’s happened with Miami also in the past.

I bet both Texas and Nebraska go 8-4 or 7-5 this season also

I am in my upper 50s and I only remember Texas being really good in the mid 2000s. I am sure they have had a few years here and there that they were Top 5. But I have no memory of Texas being some football super power for a sustained period of time. Not like Nebraska, who I am sure has won the 2nd most National titles in my lifetime

Kiffin's twitter game lately, commenting on how Saban went on Finebaum and said that NIL is ruining the parity of college football.

Saban yakked it up last night about how A&M 'bought' their top-ranked recruiting class and he and Bama 'did it the right way' with regards to NIL.

I completely believe him about A&M, but I'm already sick of the 'well, your NIL deals are buying players, but ours are totally cool' narrative from CFB fan bases.

If it's legal, then go for it. TAMU's NIL game is clearly the most lucrative right now. Next year it might be someone else. Saban is just being a wuss because their NIL packages aren't as attractive as some other schools. But I mean, it's all relative anyways. He's really crying wolf now that he has the number two recruiting class instead of number one? Gimme a break.

What's interesting about NIL is you are going to see some schools that were in the background now emerge as super NIL players for this reason: in some places there are mega-millionaire boosters who never wanted to play the under the table game for fear of being exposed and disassociated, etc. However, now that it's legal, those guys are all in because the embarrassment of an NIL deal not working out isn't nearly as bad as the embarrassment of being caught as an illegal booster.

I think TAMU is a good example of this. They probably have the richest group of boosters of any school in the country, but lets say hypothetically only half of them were willing to contribute to the under the table stuff in the past. Well now that it's above board all of them are pitching in to their "collective" or whatever they are calling it.

Bingo. Nick's claims that they didn't buy any players is horsefeathering laughable. I guarantee his talent pool has been purchased for decades. He just hates now that NIL has come into play that more people are willing to pony up since they aren't in danger of getting in trouble for doing it. Basically he's a miserable old [expletive] that doesn't like not having any advantages over everyone else.

As far as A&M goes, I will say this. I know money has been paid out legally and illegally over the years just like any other school but the numbers being thrown around now are laughable.

The NIL stuff is going to correct itself eventually. Right now it's the wild west, but there are going to be plenty of busts, not just with players but with teams as well. Let's say Jimbo rolls out another few seasons of 9-3. Those boosters are going to start wondering about their return on investment for paying all this money. Getting them to pay again and again every year is going to be difficult. So I think boosters are eventually going to start being more cautious and the numbers will go down.

You clearly don't know Aggies well. Lol. As long as oil prices are high the money will be flowing freely in Aggieland. A few 9-3 seasons isn't going to make the wallets close up.

The only reason Alabama didn't do it is that they couldn't do it by Alabama law. This February Alabama and Auburn got together with the legislature and repealed the law. I don't know if there is a level of money in Alabama to support an arms race of millions of dollars with the likes of USC and other schools that want to do it. Saban is lamenting that his time is neigh.

Imagine if the Ivy League Schools wanted to compete. Harvard and Yale are sitting on a pile of money the size of the GDP of a midsize country and Stanford isn't far behind.

I highly doubt that.

What makes you so highly skeptical? If they don’t have the richest they are right up there with whichever school does. Texas and USC are the only other two who come immediately to mind. And remember, I said richest boosters, not richest alumni. There are plenty of Ivy League schools that have richer alumni bases, but we’re talking about people who donate millions to the athletics departments of their schools.
