Eddie Goldman was active, but I didn’t see him in the box score. Did he get any snaps?

I’m pretty sure he played a lot actually

On the topic of snap counts how many snaps did our $7m tight end play today?

Was there any reason why the completion to Robinson that was ruled DPI was taken as a penalty instead of a completion??
Yeah I was following the PBP and this made no sense to me at all, provided the description was accurate.

It appeared to be a first down catch which would have kept the clock running. But instead we took the clock killing penalty.

Correct?

And what about the timeout we took on 3rd and 32 with 8 minutes left? What was the reason for that? Did he need to change personnel or something? Literally could have just called a QB kneel or some dumb run up the middle.

Dalton better not start again if Fields is healthy.

Yup. Fields obviously has the basics down just fine. He needs to improve his play speed recognition and its just such a hard argument to say he'll get there with practice snaps and on the bench. Luckily I don't think they have another Browns like D/front to play, so every game should provide ample learning experience for him and it is just wasting development to put Dalton out there.

As long as Nagy doesn't yank playcalling away from Lazor again, I agree.

Clearly trying to keep ARob's numbers down for future salary negotiations.

Or the challenge in the 1st quarter on an interception that clearly and obviously hit the ground? Seems like giving Nagy more idle time from not calling plays is not exactly the benefit you'd hope it is.

What a horsefeathering weirdo. Seriously, does he think being the offensive play caller is the only way to be a successful coach? Does he know Belichick doesn’t call plays on offense or defense or several other well regarded coaches?

I give Nagy credit for keeping the team together and not folding after the losing streak last year. He has some good coachiness. The players play hard for him. I get it, he was brought it to fix the offense and he has failed at that. It’s a shot at your pride when Lazor is clearly better at doing what you were called in to do. It’s beneficial for the team for Nagy to not be calling plays. Yes, be involved in putting the game plan together. But for the sake of the team, just publicly admit that Lazor is the man on Sundays.

This is exactly it. I’ve commented before on Nagy’s leadership abilities. The team mostly seems to like him and play hard for him. But the fact that he’s so hung up on playcalling to the point where he was willing to go down with the ship says a lot about his ego and his ability to make the best decisions for the team. If he steps away from playcalling completely I’m willing to have at least a little patience with him.

I think Nagy does get the players to buy in, but I'm still pretty frustrated that the entire starting defense (except Roquan) skipped the voluntary activities this offseason, especially when they got torched by LA. I listen to Brad Biggs on the onday after the games, and he commented on Nagy's quote that Eddie Jackson and Tashaun Gipson didn't miss touching the downed Ram due to lack of effort by saying, don't talk to me about how much the guys care when they skip mini camp. And maybe it's meatbally, but it's hard for me to square how much the guys care with skipping camps, voluntary or not. I do think Nagy should move into the "Executive Coach" role and just hand off the offense to whomever it is, but I would love it if he could get guys to care enough to come to the voluntary sessions. On the other hand, maybe he doesn't care and wants to be cool with them, I don't know.

I actually don't necessarily agree with this. I mean, Fields has 1 pretty good (not great or perfect) game and 1 disaster game. I don't think yesterday proved he's ready to take over the team full-time. I do think, at the very least, you give Dalton an extra week to heal even if he looks to be close to 100%. Let Fields get the Vegas game to prove yesterday wasn't "just the Lions" and that last week was all on Nagy's terrible gameplan. I love Fields as much as the next person, but I don't think you can say that yesterday completely erases what happened a week ago with a historically bad offensive output.

If he's good against the Raiders, then he keeps the job. If he's bad again, then I'd have no problem if they decide to go back to Dalton. Dalton games don't do anything for this franchise, but at least they can be justified with a bad Fields performance next week.

I think it is clear that Fields would still play a lot in a game that Dalton started, and I am perfectly fine with him getting introduced this way. It might be a boost in a game without montgomery to come at them a couple different ways this week.

What if the boost was just the entire gameplan though.

I'd have some concern with Fields taking every snap in a game with no Montgomery. I'm a coward that way.

Welp

Seems like the Bears knew Fields would start all week last week, but Nagy wanted to keep it under wraps thus why it wasn't announced until Saturday. This week with Dalton closer to returning, he needs to have his starter named by Wednesday for game planning purposes

And Dalton with no Montongomery is... Well I guess I can at least just not turn on the TV that day.

Saying Dalton is QB1 when healthy is an immediate fireable offense
