I’m really hoping they find a way to sign Rizzo this winter.

The reverse Chapman trade.

He's the one I hope they don't. Let the band-aid be ripped off now and move on. He's 32 and declining and plays the most replaceable position.

Bryant - and maybe Javy - I hope they'll make a serious run at.

I feel the same way. Bryant and Baez are likely not great long term investments, but Rizzo isn't going to break the bank. Whatever it takes to sign him isn't going to significantly impact the rebuild one way or another. If he signs for 3 or 4 years, he is still going to provide decent production and maybe the Cubs will even be good again toward the end of his deal. Maybe this is all wishful thinking, but he certainly seems like the most likely of the three to come back.

Anyone old enough (like me) to remember when Santo was traded to the Sox? I was a young kid but still remember feeling like a franchise icon was traded away— this feels similar.

Also remember being really pissed when Madlock and Sutter were was traded away

My earliest memory of watching an icon leave Chicago was Maddux. Not quite the same thing, but since they basically let him walk it felt the same.

Me too. But Maddux was still on the rise and we hadn't won anything. That was worse. At least this group got us one, and it was glorious

7th game OT win after down 3-1

Yeah, Maddux was on the cusp of greatness and we had to witness it with another team. Odds are good that these three all gave us their best years (maybe not Bryant, but probably).

I feel very comfortable predicting Bryant isn't winning any more MVP awards.

I only doubt that he can remain healthy enough for that. The talent is still there for a run at an MVP.

Rizzo wearing #48 (44 is retired: Reggie Jackson)

Relevant:

Brandon McCarthy remains the best. Why isn't he hired by someone to produce some content?

I think he's the hands-on part of an ownership group for a soccer team? Sort of like what Jeter is to the Marlins.
