It's a minor quibble, but would have liked Kyle to just stand there with the bat on his shoulder rather than swing at the first pitch.

Agreed. Kershaw was liable to throw another WP during that AB.

I kind of get the feeling JD barely tolerates Boog and can't stand Sutcliff.

Neither can the fans.

Looking past the always fun sight of Kershaw getting hit around Wrigley, Kyle may not be totally broken after all.

Yeah, another start or too like this and his BB, K, and GB rates will be back at normal levels. I don't want to totally handwave away a high HR rate given Kyle's velocity, but with his track record we can *probably* handwave that away if everything else looks normal.

boog is a good announcer but he doesn't have any attachment to the team yet and it makes the calls feel weird sometimes. or maybe i just miss old friend len

I don't live in the area anymore and don't get Marquee but Len was a mercenary just like everyone else. I remember him doing a nationally televised cubs game and had to get excited for any big play for or against the Cobs. Surprised he didn't end up going to the Brew Crew.

i know he was just a mercenary too, but the reason he didn't act excited for good cubs plays during nationally televised games was because he had to remain impartial. all announcers do that.

I actually recall being fascinated at how different he sounded calling our good plays on FOX versus local broadcasts. That's got to take some work.

Oh for sure, I just don't think he had any attachment to the team outside of being an employee.

Thompson looks intriguing. That Cutter/Slider plays and if he can be 94-95 as a starter, if he’s more a bullpen guy in reality you’d think he could be 97+ there with that cutter/slider and that could be a guy.
