Stewart was a second rounder. And was still the starter when he resigned for a new deal.

Leinart did not resign with AZ for a second deal.

if we draft a QB, Trubisky would also likely still be the starter at the point of resigning. Like I said, different situations, but just because this situation hasn't happened exactly the same way before doesn't mean it couldn't work out

The thing with Trubisky is he hasn't been a complete failure like many 1st round busts. More importantly, he's on a team that doesn't have a Ryan Tannehill (or Kurt Warner in Leinart's case) type that flat out took his job or the ability to sign a Tom Brady in the offseason or the ability to draft a top of the draft phenom like the Jets do right now.

which is probably why if I was Bears GM, I'd rather try to go with him on a prove-it deal and draft what I can at QB knowing I have a shot at some talent this year in the draft. That way, I'm hedging my bet on either QB succeeding with two choices who aren't over 30 years old. If you keep Foles, the guy you draft HAS to work out.

So...why are people playing the actually Mitch hasn’t been that bad game?

He's been a terrible starting quarterback. He'd be fine as a backup. He can provide a spark in a game if your starter goes down, and maybe play good for a start or two.

Given enough time and a new surrounding I even think Mitch has an inexplicable "2017 Case Keenum" in him. It will just be in like 4 years and he'll be on the Vikings and come to Chicago and clobber them. Probably in a crucial win or go home playoff game.

I mean, I don't think its out of the realm of possibilities for him to have an Alex Smith like second half to his career and be a starter for some time to come, albeit not with this front office and coaching staff

Mitch will be a backup QB somewhere next year. He's just not good. The skills he's actually decent at (running), he doesn't utilize at all and he can't throw past 5 yards. Maybe he can provide a spark somewhere if a starter goes down but I'm guessing he's out of the league by 32.

Let me emphasize that I am *not* advocating keeping him around because I think he has any hope whatsoever to be a starter. I can't speak for anyone else.

I just think he's a cromulent backup and I like him.

Alex Smith career arc for anyone is deep into the netherworld of any realm.

Foles' purpose was that he knew the offense. If Nagy's not coaching, I don't see his purpose. Like I said earlier, he's basically Glennon....except he's not a 27 year old that could possibly turn into something, even as long of a shot as it was with Glennon. At that point, you're just playing Foles so your young QB doesn't play, it's not even about developing him anymore.

I think Lewis would be a great option for the Bears:

He's got the playoff hump to get over, but he built that hump by making it the playoffs often

ahh, that playoff hump is a 0-7 record. thats not a hump, thats a horsefeathering grand canyon

but I'd consider Lewis, he is a good coach

I also read somewhere that Floyd had 26 pressures last yeah and Quinn only has 7 this year. Yeesh

Floyd had all the time in the world to perform in Chicago, but having Donald next to him doesn’t hurt

play calling on this drive is very good, roll outs, boot legs, quick high percentage throws

wish we could have seen this earlier in the season

Nice to see play calling tailored for the talent on the field. As opposed to Nagys scheme being the priority.

Keep Nagy, re-sign Trubisky and Robinson. They finally figured this out!!!!

it was easy after all: just take the play-calling away from Nagy

now if Pagano could get off his ass
