This team made the most of their window of contention and will be forever in my heart. This being said, it’s time to move on and rebuild; and Yu and Kyle are probably our top chips.

When HoyerStein first took over, they had a hell of a lot less to work with and managed to spin it into gold. What’s another 3 years in the grand scheme of things?

How likely is it that Theo bolts this offseason? 20%?

I mean completely overhauling the offense in 1 offseason is just not realistic with limited assets and resource constraints, so his options are:

1) Come back for 1 more year with most of the current core, maybe 1-2 moves

2) Bolt for the Mets or someone and start fresh

3) Go against his previously stated philosophy of 10 years max at one place, sign an extension and embark on a 2+ season retool.

for me there is a bit of "the devil I know is better then the devil I don't know", #3 seems like the best case. He's done it once at least

the frustrating thing is that they could still easily contend if they'd spend just a little bit and if theo could just find a way to make the offense decent. we already have two controlled TOR pitchers on the roster and that's like the hardest part.

I'm done with Schwarber, guy is never going to amount to a real hitter, had high hopes, just never going to happen.

Also done with Baez, let some other team watch his dumb ass swing at outside slider after outside slider after outside slider seriously, why does anyone throw him a strike, ever?

Not willing to give up on Bryant, when healthy, he's still 6+ WAR player, a great player. Additionally, we all know, if traded away for a six pack (Bell's Two Hearted Ale, Aventinus or Karamelit Triple) and PTBN he'll magically become iron man and burn the Cubs' asses for the next ten years. I'd rather watch him produce then get hurt as Cub. Given the recent trend with injuries do think he has much leverage in negotiations, think the Cubs will look at a contract with many incentives.

I will sadly take the under on him ever getting 6 wins again if he stays with the Cubs.

Yeah, I edited my statement above, better he has an injury riddled career as a Cub then become a HOF elsewhere, boy that sounds selfish. Well, it is selfish.

The most reliable predictor of future injury is still past injury.

Correct but, you know, beyond a doubt, because its the Cubs, Bryant will magically become Cal Ripken Jr. after being traded.

Which major news of the day do you think Tom and Todd are more upset about?

they're fine with the cubs. anything that makes the fans more amenable to a firesale and rebuild is probably good for them.

I think we got what we deserved v Miami. I'm disappointed Theo didn't pull the trigger on big trades after last season. Didn't he say going into September of last season the "he was going to hold people responsible" ie players for performance? I thought Bryant and Schwarber were at the pinnacle of their trade values and would be dealt. It looked like Lester and Quintana were shot and that we'd get some pitching help. Too bad. Maybe I overestimated Theo. Or maybe winning titles in this mediocre division is good enough for Rickett's?
