Why are we talking as if the competitive window is currently open?

I’m just talking about overall team direction and strategy. The FO is making moves and decisions as if they are in the middle of a competitive window. Recognizing that helps when trying to determine future moves/direction

I think the plan is Foles and draft a QB next year. I think history has shown Pace doesn't give a horsefeathers about pissing away draft capital or the future cap. If the opportunity presents itself to trade up to get a QB (Lawrence will be too far up), I think he'll move up in the 1st to take one. If not, I think they take one in the 2nd and try to develop him for a year or two behind Foles.

Of course, Pace has also not shown a willingness to bring in a developmental QB.

The Bears have too many holes to waste a late first round or second round pick on a developmental QB. Unless there's a unique circumstance where a top QB falls for some reason, I'd rather devote picks and money elsewhere during the rest of this competitive window and ride the cheap starting QB with a history of being average.

I agree that the Bears have a lot of holes, but I think you 100% draft a developmental QB. If you have too many holes to fill, the best thing that hides holes on your team is a great QB. If the Bears think they can draft and develop a great QB (they never have, but Nagy hasn't had a pick yet) then you draft him.

Also, now that Foles is the starter....if the Bears re-sign Robinson as most expect, every single starter on offense is under contract for next year. The defense would have 9 of 11 under contract. Granted, some of those starters may be holes now and especially by next year....but I don't think they have so many holes that they HAVE to avoid a QB if one is on the board.

Yea, they're already out of range for Lawrence. With the Big Ten resuming play, Fields will likely play himself out of their range as well.

I guess the QB from North Dakota (Trey Lance) is being talked about as a possible first rounder. Other guys that might draw day 1 or day 2 interest... Jamie Newman (though he opted out), Kyle Trask, KJ Costello, Sam Ehlinger, Kellen Mond.. We'll see if any play themselves into solidly R1 prospects where Pace would feel the need to trade up for any into the top 10 to secure them.

Speaking as the resident Aggie, unless Jimbo worked a damn miracle with Mond this offseason I want no part of him with the Bears. Can't throw the deep ball to save his life. Decision making isn't a strong point either. He's shown flashes of brilliance but those moments have been very rare. Now I didn't see the Vandy game on Saturday but considering that we only put up 17 points I doubt we saw a QB that has improved significantly from last season.

What you've described of Mond is pretty much Trubisky, no?

Yep, except Mond has been starting for years. Don’t think he has the footwork issues that Mitch has but he’s not the QB we need.

Is there reason to be worried about Kmet? 1 target game 1, 1 target game 2, no target game 3. No clue how often he's on the field.

Rookie tight ends rarely have an impact, that's why I wasn't really high on the pick for a team essentially in win now mode. Doesn't mean Kmet won't have an impact going forward though.

What are the Bears going to do to replace Cohen? They have Montgomery and Patterson but they're really screwed if one goes down, especially Montgomery. Do they look for a trade around the league or sign someone like Spencer Ware? And no, I don't think Ryan Nall is the guy.

I dont think Nall can replace Cohen, but I do think he could see more playing time. whatever they do, I hope they dont trade draft picks. I'm sick of the patent Ryan Pace knee-jerk. i thought theydrafted a guy last spring..(2019), Whyte? fast, could be a Cohen Lite for awhile.

Yea Whyte is sitting on the Lions PS right now and they have a plenty deep RB room so I doubt they'd block him.

Seems like it would be an obvious move.

Personally, I'd rather see Adrian Killins off the Eagles or former rugby star Christian Wade off of the Bills PS.

I bet Taquon Mizzell is a free agent

I read that Artavis Pierce has similar speed and ability to cut like Cohen and would be an option to replace on the roster from the practice squad. Don't know how much of that is true. They did seem to like his abilities in training camp.

Yeah, rumor has it that Pierce is getting the call up. I do think though that the replacement for Cohen though will be more Montgomery and Patterson. Nall may get 3-4 more snaps per game. Pierce may get a few snaps here or there, but I'd imagine pass protection is going to be an issue for him.

Yea, and part of the "replacement" will probably just come down to doing different things with different types of personnel.
