So Ginn, Wims, and Ridley likely competing for 2 spots, though you could keep 7 WR if the young guys force the issue, or if they're just fully treating Patterson as RB/returner.

I wondered if this is part of the strategy at RB, not that I really want it to be.

Its an interesting dilemma. I'm not sure Nall and Pierce are so noteworthy that you couldn't try and just hide them on the PS. Nall did play special teams last year, but if that spot, whether it's a RB or S or TE, is mainly a ST contributor only, would it really matter if CPatt was your 3rd active RB on game days, and if an injury occurs you're in basically the same spot you'd be.

That said, I'm also basing that around Nall and Pierce really being nothing special. There's still some semi interesting vet options they could look to add that would have a real chance to be part of a regular 3 man RB platoon.

This is what I'm expecting. There will be plenty of vet back up options once roster cuts start happening. Might even be someone intriguing become available before then.

Schedule works out pretty well for the Bears, IMO. A late BYE week (11) will bode well if they are a contending team. Helping them contend is a schedule that starts with 6 straight losing teams from 2019 and the non-playoff Rams thru 7 weeks. Granted, one of those teams is the revamped Bucs, but the Bears get them in Chicago on a short week (Thursday night) for both teams. Good chance to get off to a fast start and have teams playing catch up if they can go 6-1, 5-2 ish in the first 7.

Of course, that means 7 of the final 9 are against playoff teams. Of those 7 though, 4 are against GB and Minnesota. If the Bears are any good, they'll have to beat those teams anyway. And Nagy is 4-0 against the Vikings. Saints is at home, but almost assuredly a loss. Getting the Texans in Chicago in December should help get a win there if the Bears are actually any good. However, it's of note that the Bears have never beaten the Texans in franchise history. The Bears have also never beaten Tom Brady.

4 primetime games (1 TNF, 1 SNF, 2 MNF)

11 noon/1 EST starts

I'm being lazy. Is the schedule 16 or 17 games this year?

16. I believe plan is to add the extra playoff teams this year and then 17 games 2021 season. Though a lot of this was pre-COVID so things may have changed.

Beyond the easy start for the team as a whole, it's a pretty easy slate for Mitch if he wins the QB job out of camp. He could bum slay for a couple weeks and have good topline stats, which would be bad if you're not convinced on him.

That said, I tend to think Foles will beat him if it's a truely open competition.

Anyone watching this Shaun Gayle murder porn story on 20/20? I had never heard anything about his pregnant girlfriend being murdered so this is all new to me.

You never heard that? It was pre twitter but during social media time. I remember that

I think I remember hearing she was murdered, but I don't remember the rest of it or who did it.

ESPN highlighted the Bears' long struggle with running the ball up the middle. They havent ranked higher than 22nd in this millennium. That is embarrassing, especially for a team with such a rich history of doing just that.

And they have used several top 100 picks on interior OL (Long, Daniels, Whitehair, Grasu) while drafting 0 tackles in the top 100.

This millenium?

Carimi and Williams immediately come to mind (not that it changes the overall point)

Both Angelo and Pace have largely ignored the line in the meat of the draft for multiple years in a row. When they’ve had decent lines they’ve been built through free agent pass protectors. They also haven’t had a between the tackle type system or running back for much of the past two decades. When they were a good team they did it on the back of a strong defense that required a lot of draft capital being used on that side of the ball.

I had to look up the name but Columbo was the guy I always used to think of as the “well that didn’t work so let’s never draft a lineman again” pick.

When they drafted him, I exclaimed “WHO THE horsefeathers IS MARC COLUMBO”. My girlfriend at the time thought it was hilarious and wrote that quote out on a piece of tracing paper and slipped it into the cover of my Modest Mouse Building Nothing out of Something CD jacket.

I still have that note

I'm watching the Bears/Titans game from 2012 (10-6 season missed playoffs in Lovie's last year). And my God did was this organization flat out negligent to Jay Cutler. I mean, this is the year they got Brandon Marshall and they had Forte, but the rest of the offense is putrid. Hester the #2 WR. Kellen Davis is the TE since they previously traded potential future Hall of Famer, Greg Olsen. The OL consists of J'Marcus Webb, Chilo Rachal, Lance Louis and Gabe Carimi with Roberto Garza being the only respectable player at center, and he's 33 years old at this point. Mike effing Tice is the offensive coordinator. I guess rookie Alshon Jeffery is on this team, but I haven't seen him on the field.

Granted the Bears put up 51 points in this game, but right now it's 31-2 and they have about 60 yards of total offense. Blocked punt for TD, Urlacher pick 6, Hester return inside the 10, Peanut punch recovery inside the 20.

The 2012 Bears had 3 games under 190 total yards of offense. They had 2 more games under 250 total yards and 4 additional under 300 yards. This was the infamous season where 11 QBs threw for over 4000 yards (14 over 3,800) and Cutler threw for just 3,033 in 15 games. Only Christian Ponder and Mark Sanchez threw for less with at least 13 starts. Almost HALF of the passing yards went to Marshall.

The Bears invested a ton in Cutler in terms of picks and eventually money, but never actually invested in the OL. Invested in WR finally with Marshall and Jeffery, but Marshall was a known headcase and then they gave him offensive coordinators/a head coach that weren't fit for an NFL job. This franchise seriously could have won multiple rings under Lovie had they ever even had 2 of competent offensive weapons, OL investment, a legit NFL OC.

I was at that game. Lots of fun, and Chicago drank Nashville dry. Too bad this is the year the Bears return to Nashville. Very fun town, and I hate country music
