I'm watching the Bears/Titans game from 2012 (10-6 season missed playoffs in Lovie's last year). And my God did was this organization flat out negligent to Jay Cutler. I mean, this is the year they got Brandon Marshall and they had Forte, but the rest of the offense is putrid. Hester the #2 WR. Kellen Davis is the TE since they previously traded potential future Hall of Famer, Greg Olsen. The OL consists of J'Marcus Webb, Chilo Rachal, Lance Louis and Gabe Carimi with Roberto Garza being the only respectable player at center, and he's 33 years old at this point. Mike effing Tice is the offensive coordinator. I guess rookie Alshon Jeffery is on this team, but I haven't seen him on the field.

Granted the Bears put up 51 points in this game, but right now it's 31-2 and they have about 60 yards of total offense. Blocked punt for TD, Urlacher pick 6, Hester return inside the 10, Peanut punch recovery inside the 20.

The 2012 Bears had 3 games under 190 total yards of offense. They had 2 more games under 250 total yards and 4 additional under 300 yards. This was the infamous season where 11 QBs threw for over 4000 yards (14 over 3,800) and Cutler threw for just 3,033 in 15 games. Only Christian Ponder and Mark Sanchez threw for less with at least 13 starts. Almost HALF of the passing yards went to Marshall.

The Bears invested a ton in Cutler in terms of picks and eventually money, but never actually invested in the OL. Invested in WR finally with Marshall and Jeffery, but Marshall was a known headcase and then they gave him offensive coordinators/a head coach that weren't fit for an NFL job. This franchise seriously could have won multiple rings under Lovie had they ever even had 2 of competent offensive weapons, OL investment, a legit NFL OC.

Well, at least they’ve learned their lesson and totally aren’t blowing another window on overinvesting in defense and underinvesting in the core of the offense

EHH...they've invested heavily in offense, spending a top 5 pick on a QB is a big deal. They just flat out missed

it's an old article, but I don't remember seeing it posted here.

I don't know if it was here or not but I saw it before and thought it was a dumb story regardless. Maybe he didn't want to play for the Bears, which has a history of being a terrible place for QBs to play. But if he was getting 3/60 he wasn't going to be worried about competing with Mitch Freaking Trubisky. That just reads like a story leaked by a guy working for the Bears who really wanted to fluff up Mitch's ego after the trade for Foles.

Breaking news alert.

maybe, but I would have much rather had Bridgewater then Foles, who has yet to actually play 16 games in a season and who can run red hot, but plays mostly dead. I also don't know where the Bears were going to hide $20 million in the salary cap to pay Bridgewater, however

Foles is fine especially considering there's like zero off-season to be able to teach a new guy the offense

I'll happily eat my words if the future proves otherwise, but Foles is going to suck if/when he gets on the field this year

Can he be average? That's all it take for the Bears to make the playoffs, with average QB play they would have won at 11 games last year.

Ok. Lets define average and if he hits higher then that I’ll write I hate Foles on a sub and eat it on video, face obscured for security of course

3000 yrds, 2:1 td/int w/min 20 tds and 90 passer rating?

That'll do, guess I should have prefaced my question with I to, agree, that in all likelihood Foles will royally suck.

Bears reportedly trading Adam Shaheen to the Dolphins for a conditional 6th round 2021 pick

Regardless of the conditions thats way more than I thought they could get.

They got a thing. I didn't think they'd get a thing.

Pretty much.

With that and Braunecker cut, they've shaved a few mil of cap and the once crowded TE group is coming into picture (I was never counting on Shaheen making the roster, but this confirms it)
