Orioles are aggressively shopping Dylan Bundy and think a deal is close.

I wouldn't hate Bundy, his velocity has dipped so he's no longer the upside play he was before, but he's a solid average starter at this point who might get a little bump from getting out of the AL East

That being said. I would hate trading for Bundy this early. That's a move you settle for in January, not one you make before the Winter Meetings have even kicked off.

lol why

I certainly don't think the free agent market is fixed, but I think it's looking more and more safe to say it's better than the last two years by a significant margin. Four years from three admittedly fantastic months out of the pen is asinine.

Jonathan Villar on waivers

I’m not the biggest fan of his but could live with him on the roster. Especially if it’s taking on of the Descalso/Kemp/Almora spots.

I can't imagine Theo would want to pay him the 10 or so million he's due in arbitration. If he clears then maybe something could get done.

Yeah I don’t see us claiming him for the $10 mil or so, but if he hits FA I could see us being in on him. Hoping the Phillies do the same with Hernandez here soon and then we can sign him in FA.

Villar and Akiyama each at $5-$7 million COULD fill two holes without trading assets and still have about $15-$18 million to fix the other holes.

Catchers are flying fast, if a Willson trade is going to happen it's likely going to be soon.

Yeah the market on C’s is moving in a fortuitous manner to trade him it would seem

Would be nice probably but I guess not the most important player to try and land for the Cubs

If the Cubs are going to take a good jump forward without trading Contreras/Bryant, and given their money limitations, I think Kim and Akiyama are your best gamble.

Just listened to the new Athletic Cubs podcast with Brett, Sahadev, and Mooney. I think most people were already under this impression, but they very much made it sound like Contreras will be moved. A few references along the lines of "if he's still on the team by the time this podcast gets released."

While there are other reasons why Contreras makes the most sense to move, there are specific reasons why the Cubs consider him expendable. The problem is other teams know that. I suspect he'll likely be traded, and that the return will likely be less than we're hoping.

If the return isn't not worth trading him, then they shouldn't trade him. Being "stuck" with an all-star catcher with multiple years of control certainly isn't our biggest worry. Listen to offers on Caratini, Schwarber, etc.
