So last night JD kept calling the Underwood pitch that Kzone was identifying as a 2-seam as a change-up. They zoomed in on his hand he had the circle grip. But statcast has also identified them as sinkers. Is that Kzone actually just statcast readings?

I have no idea how K-Zone classifies a pitch or if it just piggybacks off Statcast. I don’t really even know how Statcast classifies a pitch but I’m guessing it’s some combo of spin rate and movement?

 

Anyways, that pitch Underwood was throwing reminded me of Harden’s vaunted “Splunker” pitch that was some combination of a sinker/2-seamer/split/change.

That would make sense since as of last year, I think, every stadium has the Statcast tech/infrastructure in it. If you go to a game there’s like a 3x3 black box behind home plate usually on the facade of the second or third deck and that’s the Statcast “box” (guessing other measuring tools are around the park too but that’s the most visible).

Rizzo hit HR on back-to-back days June 14th and 15th and has just 2 HR since. The OBP is there but the SLG is down under .430 over that 43+ game period, so Joe might as well try him again at leadoff.
