If its going to happen its going to be early enough in the season to believe that a managerial change can salvage the season. April is too early. I'm thinking late May. Lets go May 27th, the day after getting swept at home by the Reds to bring the Cubs record to 24-28.

I think he’s given the year and just not brought back next year. Largely based on the pitchers getting their horsefeathers together, which I think they will so there won’t be a record/performance reason to fire him in season. If the idiots in the bullpen don’t want to figure it out though, there’s not much Joe or any manager can do and Theo built in a way for Joe to hang himself if we keep getting horsefeathers pitching.

Why are people actively rooting for Maddon to be replaced with a significantly worse manager?

who is doing that?

Well since pretty much all managers suck (or the good ones are gainfully employed), who are the candidates who would be an improvement on Maddon, either mid-season or in 2020?

Francona might be available? Otherwise would guess we’d go with one of these young, inexperienced guys that cost nothing like everyone else is doing. Loretta or Venable on staff fit this.

I generally agree that it’s much harder than some think to find a better manager, the new guy might be better at certain things Joe is bad at but probably will be worse in spots Joe’s good at. It will be just shifting the anger at stuff we don’t like about Joe to different things with the new guys.

Who says they can't find a better manager? I haven't liked Maddon since he almost lost the WS with his choke moves.I think he's lost his motivation for the game after the WS win. I think they either fire him at the ASB (just before) or whenever they raise the white flag and become sellers. No need to have him around during a mini-tank. I guess I'm saying between the ASB and trade deadline.

He was already fired, but he keeps on showing up at the park. Ricketts will never turn down labor he's already paid for, as tight as things are for the Cubs budget-wise.

Don’t discount Girardi as a possibility. If the Cubs decide to totally scapegoat Maddon and want to do a culture 180, he fits the bill.
