I don’t know I guess this is a meatball take on the Luck situation. Feel free to blast me and it’s likely I’ll agree with a good argument. I’m not fullly in on this take but just my initial:

The guy hurt his foot/ankle/leg sometime this spring. In that case it hurt and I get it, but why is that not the time to soul search and figure out if you want to play football anymore? Instead it’s some kind of miscommunication between him and the team and such and it’s carried over until a week or so before the season starts.

I fully supported Josh Gordon stepping away from football (and hope he’s fully rehabilitated now) last year. If Luck was feeling as Gordon did and he’s not in a good mental place then that’s another issue altogether. But what I’ve read is he didn’t want to rehabilitate and was tired of getting his body busted up. Again, that’s a fine decision if not for all the other guys counting on you for 2019 and busting their ass with the assumption you would be leading the offense.

The whole thing is just bizarre to me.

Basically, if it was mental well-being then I get it. One hundred percent. But he’s referenced the physical aspect along with “the life he wants to live”.

Again, I get that but it’s the end of August, he should have made up his mind before summer if that was the case.

Though, I guess counterargument is a passionateless Luck is no better than a healthy Jacoby Brissett. Again, I don’t know, I’m conflicted.

The media is going so overboard on this Luck story. SHOCKING!!! WILL CHANGE THE NFL FOREVER!!!!

The dude has barely played over the past few years. It's a shame, but I wasn't shocked at all that he hung it up. He's always hurt and he's (apparently) an insanely slow healer

I haven't regularly watched football, especially the NFL, in quite some time, so I don't know if this is a reasonable take or not.

It's an extremely reasonable take. The Colts screwed up the Luck era a million times. Ironically they finally got a pretty decent team around him, but by then he'd been beset by injury.

I think the one big thing you are missing is that the injury was supposed to be minor. Luck gets hurt. He thinks it's going to get better in a couple weeks, and the doctors back that up. It just needs some rest. There's no reason to think about retirement at that point.

Now fast forward four months. It still hasn't healed. 3 different MRI's have been taken, and nobody seems to quite know what's wrong. So now it's turned into a long period of exploration/rehab/playing through pain. It's probably been very frustrating for him, and that's why suddenly the retirement thing started looking better and better.

The Colts are likely in the same place if he had retired in June as now. Obviously if he had retired before the draft that isn't the case, but that's right around when he got hurt.

Yeah and I mean I get that. Again, I’m trying to look at this objectively as possible. I never played even a snap of pop warner football (and maybe that’s my disconnect). But, it would seem to me if this were solely a personal decision that the timing of it just seems inconsiderate of the other 70+ players out there trying to win in 2019.

I’m probably showing my stupidity because I know nothing of being a professional football player. But so far as I can tell it seems a little bit inconsiderate to do this now when so many of his teammates are counting on him.

Yes, it’s his decision and if I was a Colts fan I certainly would be disappointed but say no more than I’m saying here. It’s his decision and his right but that doesn’t mean it’s not kind of fucked up for his teammates.

I get it’s disappointing and frustrating for a perceived minor injury to be misdisniagosed (Yu signal shines into sky). But, that doesn’t change the fact he was signed to play this year and has a ton of people relying on him to fulfill that commitment. He’s a QB and not all positions/talent is created equal. He has a bigger impact than their backup left guard.

I mean no doubt they're disappointed, but if they dont support him at the end of the day, horsefeathers 'em.

I do t get the best inconsiderate of his teammates angle. This is professional sports. He could be out for the season with an injury (again) and it would be no different. He didn’t just decide on a whim to leave. His body has been beaten the hell up for years. He gave it a go and decided he can’t make it another year. It’s better than a midseason retirement.

Yeah, he did what he thought he had to do. The timing is the main thing for me, but it's his life and his body and his decision.

The Colts really screwed him with that OL for years.

Chad Kelly has to sit out the first two games of the season for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. It will be interesting to see what they do about that.

Given how he has performed in the preseason last year and this year (6th best QBR among all QB’s this preseason), I think he’d be competing for the starting job right now if not for the suspension. He’s better than Brissett. Anyone with eyeballs can see that. I think Kelly starts a game this season at some point.

Only boring Colts fans want Brissett to be the starter after watching Kelly this preseason. He has a ten cent head but he’s a bad sumbitch on the field. In college he had a higher QBR than Baker Mayfield, Patrick Mahomes, Deshaun Watson, Dak Prescott, Lamar Jackson and Jared Goff. He put up 762 yards, 7 TD’s, and 0 INT’s in his two games against Bama, including Bama’s last home loss. He has the third most offensive yards in a single season in SEC history. Yeah, I know I’m an Ole Miss homer, but good grief, a Chad Kelly lead mediocre Ole Miss offense put up

91 points in those two games against Saban’s D.

Colts fans have already seen what Brissett can do on the field. His ceiling is being an average NFL QB. Kelly has the potential to be an outstanding NFL QB. There isn’t a single throw he can’t make. Hell, watch that video I posted. That guy isn’t some Ole Miss homer and he was floored by how good Kelly looks. Look at that throw at 11:20. That’s a Favre missile. Brissett isn’t making that pass.

In the end, it’s about potential. Go check out some Colts message boards. The majority want Kelly to have a shot when he gets back from the suspension.

I had never in my life heard of this Chad Kelly guy before just now, and I still knew with 100% certainty that he went to Ole Miss.

Of course some Great White Hope long shot headcase QB that people are willing to make a million excuses for is horsefeathering named "Chad." OF COURSE.

Though good on Google to make this first suggested image on the main (non-image) search result page:

Yeah, good horsefeathering luck pining for this guy to do anything but die early after he falls out of the back of a moving pickup truck.

Yeah, good horsefeathering like pining for this guy to do anything but die early after he falls out of the back of a moving pickup truck.

Chad Kelly is a doofus, no doubt. He’s a cockeyed white homeboy who has written rap songs...about himself. But the dude can ball. The stats don’t lie. He’s Jim Kelly’s protege actually. Jim taught him how to ball but not how to live life.

Check out his self promoting rap song from high school.

Kinda goes without saying at this point, right?

Kelly continued to fight with two bouncers and stated "I'm going to go to my car and get my AK-47 and spray this place," according to a report.

Buffalo police officers responding to that alleged threat stopped a 2005 Ford F-150 pickup truck in which Kelly was a passenger at 458 Pearl.

Kelly was forcibly removed from the vehicle, officers said. Police said Kelly kicked and tried to swing at officers as they removed him from the vehicle. They said he resisted getting into a patrol vehicle and struggled with staff at central booking.

This is the horsefeathering Chad-iest privilege ever. horsefeathers this horsefeathers, for real.
