Are the New Years Six required to pick the next highest teams after the bowl affiliations or did they willingly give us 4 SEC teams?

I’d much rather see Washington St or WVU in there instead of Florida or LSU.

I know, Georgia Southern vs. Eastern Michigan is going to be a scorcher

They have to take the highest ranked teams. Except for the conference-tied Rose and Sugar, who get a team from those leagues no matter how high they are ranked. That's why Texas is in the Sugar.

I think most of the games after Christmas are at least worth having on, which is really all I'm looking for.

Andy, how does ND stack up against Clemson? For whatever reason I’ve not seen a snap of Irish football this year. I’ve seen some prognosticators claiming that Clemson aren’t what they have been in years past.

Thanks for the info. I knew that the champs got auto bids if they weren’t in the playoff and the top Group of 5 got a spot also but didn’t know after that. I remember the BCS used to have a two max per conference rule. Wouldn’t be opposed to them making it 3 per conference assuming there are enough in the top 15/16 ish.

It's interesting, because neither team has faced an opponent that could really threaten them talent wise since September. It might come down to who adjusts to the higher level of play quickest (Dabo is a better coach than Kelly, so that idea doesn't fire me up much).

Common opponents don't reveal much. Of the 4, both teams blew out 2 (Clemson's margins were bigger but I'm not totally sure how much it matters beyond 4-TD spreads), while ND was way better vs Syracuse and Clemson was way better vs Pitt.

Both teams have really good defensive lines (Clemson's is ridiculous), so whichever QB is able to work around the pressure might have the advantage. Book has been really good at adjusting to what he sees from defenses. I can't speak to Lawrence, but I'm guessing he hasn't seen a ton of pressure. I'll be interested to see what ND's DC decides to do against him. I love both of ND's coordinators, they've done a tremendous job figuring teams out in-game all year.

I expect it to be a pretty good game and if I were forced to bet the line (10.5-12) I'd take ND. This isn't 2012 - the Irish have a much more complete team than that one, and this Clemson team isn't the death machine that that Bama team was. I think Clemson will win but I'd obviously love to be surprised.

the New Years 6 Bowls are a letdown. Conference alignments need to go. OSU/Michigan v Georgia would be interesting. Texas shouldnt be in. West Virginia v Central Florida would be interesting. OSU/Michigan v LSU would be interesing. Non of the existing games are that much fun.

How many times has Michigan played Florida recently? The Illinois fans at work are saying that this will be the 4th time they have played Florida since they last played Illinois.

Good stuff. I'm excited to watch it.

If you have the athletes to do it, I'd pressure the hell out of Lawrence. He's a very skilled QB but he's only a true freshman. So like you said, who knows how many pressures he has seen or would recognize.

I bet he has an NFL itch.

Sit out a year or 2 and replace Saban

Like him or hate him, he is very successful. I also think he helped elevate the entire B1G conference by calling the rest of the teams out early in his tenure.

I keep reading other Michigan fans on twitter saying that they are mad Urban is stepping down because Michigan will have never beaten him. Nevermind the fact that they did (he was just at Florida at the time), but I don't care who is coaching Ohio State, I just want Michigan to beat them. If Michigan wins The Game in 2022 and no Michigan fan is going to care if an OSU fan says 'yeah but you never beat Urban'.

they never beat Meyer's OSU but they also never fully embraced a coach who shielded a wife beater

it's up to the individual really which is more worth being proud of

that's a strange hire for anyone looking to win a lot of football games

He has a great reputation as an offensive coach (he's only going to be their OC). It's a pretty decent gamble for SC. If it doesn't work everyone's fired anyway.

Yeah, it seems like an obvious OC hire
