Almora has always been a tweener between AAA-quality and MLB quality. That's just how draft picks go sometimes.

Heyward hurt his wrist and sometimes you hurt a key joint and you can never swing a bat the same again. Sorry, Kris.

Heyward hurt his wrist in between the 2015 and 2016 seasons?

He also funked his shoulder up in Atlanta and his swing has never looked the same. The cardinals season was a flukish BA, a home run off arrieta and defensive efficiency he won’t approach anymore admit he ages. He’s a 2 WAR guy who might get to 3 with BABIP luck since he doesn’t strike out.

Any details on the Heyward shoulder injury?

He has degenerative back stuff, and strained his shoulder or something in, what, like his 2nd or 3rd season? And then Chipper was a dick (shocker) and called him out for not playing through the pain.

You're acting like he didn't have a great season the year before or any time before his STL season. I'm obviously not bullish on Heyward moving forward (which sucks, because I was a huge fan of signing him) but it's not like the Cubs were the only team who thought he'd be good.

He was a 4 win guy in 2014 because of defense - his slugging that year was lower than it was in 2018 or 2017. He's had 3 good offensive years, two were before the injuries and one was the weird cardinals season where he hit .293 randomly. If you think he's hitting .293 again, i think you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

it was clearly BDJ who was pissed because he was pulled early and he figured the ass cubs hitters would do nothing. i don't blame him. in fact next year i hope the whole team chills in the clubhouse playing on their amazon fires while only the batter and on-deck guy are on the field and they just tag each other in and out after their strikeouts

Ive been meaning to ask questions on a braves forum. Was his swing always so fucked up?

pretty sure Jon is in between Chavez and Hamels.... not that it matters because after his performance he could pull a Javy and scream "I do whatever the horsefeathers I want" at the whole clubhouse

I'm pretty sure I remember seeing him later in the game out with everyone, I could be mistaken though.

Would Jon Lester even know how to use an iPad? I know he tweets, but I just have always figured his wife does it for him.

I picture him with a flip phone or something.

If it was Jon, I am not sure it was him [expletive] on his teammates. If anything, I think he is really pissed from a competitive standpoint of not staying in the game.

Yeah, I have a hard time picturing him crack his knuckles and say, "now it's time for daddy to parlay those 6 strong innings into a high score on Candy Crush."

The whole signing looks worse and worse for the FO as time goes on. Like, it's not like any of this stuff was any kind of secret, yet they seemingly went all in on him more just to spite the Cardinals as opposed to actually signing someone who looked like they were going to be a reliably valuable baseball player.

there is no way anyone on the cubs roster would interpret anything jon lester did after that performance as being uninterested in the outcome or whatever passan is alluding to. It's either someone else or passan is just making horsefeathers up.

they were just doing the smartest guys in the room stuff again. Heyward was a high floor guy because of the defense and the lack of Ks. his body was borked and he still hit .290 so "hey, if we can get the swing straight he'll be a GG defender who walks doesnt K and hits for power again. the shoulder can't be too bad, he hit .290!" but he just literally can't swing anymore.

Yeah; I'm just a moron who read a Wikipedia page, and as soon as I got to the part about "DEGENERATIVE BACK CONDITION," klaxons started blasting even though I am in no position to dish out huge baseball contracts to guys whose value is largely predicated on something that tends to decline suddenly even with guys who DON'T have DEGENERATIVE BACK CONDITIONS.

the new market inefficiency is avoiding degenerative conditions while focusing on (checks notes) signing pitchers with fettucine for ligaments

Looks like my picture cuts off the last 2 guys on the right. I think the one next to Q might be De La Rosa? No idea who the guy next to him is or the guy next to Hendricks. Also I think the guy above Lester is Chatwood.

Since Hendricks and DLR are in the dugout I'm going to assume this is during the bottom of the 13th so Gore, Javy and Almora are safe. Biggest suspects would be Monty, Happ (unless he's one of the guys that I didnt identify), Heyward (doubt it) or someone else on the 40 man that I don't care about.

OK then who is the one above Lester. Too many white-ish guys with full beards

Webster I think?

Montgomery was probably in the bullpen

Again, he had multiple offers and he reportedly had offers higher than what he signed for with the Cubs. This wasn't some random shot in the dark -- several teams were trying to land him and willing to pay a lot of money.

Yeah, Montgomery and Mills were the only two arms left yesterday, so both of them had to have been in the pen.

update: i think who you think is lester is in actuality bote

you might be right...hmm the plot thickens...

Also I should point out I really don't care if a cub was in the clubhouse playing on their ipad, I just like being an internet sleuth
