Am I wrong thinking extensions usually get done before week 1 or not at all? Do we expect Amos to get an extension?

Outside of Amos, the other starters or significant role players who could hit FA next year are Kush, Massie, O'Donnell, Scales, Callahan, Roberston-Harris (RFA). Only one of those guys has an obvious built in replacement. Simms is probably the only obvious cut to save additional space. I don't think the 30M originally speculated next off season (post Mack deal) is going to go that far. Maybe some creative deals squeezes in some extra 2019 cap for another FA upgrade, but this team is banking mainly on internal improvement now; the chips are mostly in.

Don't remember the source I was reading, but I think I saw that the Bears wanted to extend Goldman and Amos, but doubted they could afford to do both now with what was left of the cap space.

The biggest contract handed out to a FA safety this offseason was 3 years 16.3 mil to Kurt Coleman. Everyone admits now that's an overpay as that's just not the market for safeties this year. You still have a couple of starting caliber safeties not even on a team.

Because PFF thinks Amos is a God, his agent has seen that. His agent is going to want a contract fit for a guy that a respectable website (by some) regard as one of the top safeties in the league. I think Amos will be looking for Tony Jefferson type money. 4 years/34Mil. I'd be very surprised if the Bears give him that any time this season now that they've tied up a ton of money. They may discuss the franchise tag with him after the season. But right now, I think Amos looks like the fall guy for the Bears big spending this offseason.

The Bears have Bush who may be able to take over for much cheaper, with hopefully only a little drop off. They could also do what they've done like 9 times in the last 11 years and draft a safety in the midrounds again.

I'm assuming they would have gotten something done with Amos if not for the Mack move, but now they'll have to do it next offseason. It should be fine, it looks like the Bears have ~20 million to play with (Spotrac says 30.1, but that's not updated for Goldman yet), and that's before any cuts to guys like Dion Sims.

Yeah, they CAN get it done with Amos. But I'm guessing they use that 20Mil (30Mil with cuts to Sims, Trevathan) on replacing Massie at RT and probably prioritize nickel CB (Callahan also a FA) over safety. With Jackson back there and a potentially dominant front 7, Amos really isn't important enough in this defense to pay big money.

Seems like Coward could be getting groomed to take over RT. That would be a cheap replacement option at that position. They certainly aren't drafting a top RT and they won't have the money to spend on a top FA RT. Transitioning to RT in one offseason and earning a roster spot is pretty impressive.

With Mack on board and Goldman resigned it probably would not be wise to extend a safety. Last I remember PFF is wonky anyway.

Yeah, if you give Amos decent money, you're looking at paying over 5Mil for every defensive starter other than whoever is the opposite DE of Hicks and Jackson. I like Amos, but he's probably as replaceable as anyone on the defense, except maybe Trevathan if Smith is a true stud.

Also worth noting, if you let Amos test free agency and someone gives him 7-8Mil/year.....the Bears would likely be looking at a comp pick in 2020. It's been so long since the Bears had one, and with so much of the core together thru 2020, they probably aren't going to be splurging for any more FAs like they did this year. And they may actually lose a decent player or two for a change.

If Amos signs a contract similar to Tony Jefferson, someone signs Callahan to a decent sized contract, then White and Massie get deals elsewhere.....the Bears probably can get a 4th round comp pick in 2020, assuming they don't make a big signing.

The exact details of the joke are blurry now. But Kade McClure, Brandon Fritts and Conner Krizancic know their long-standing prank on Trubisky occurred when Mentor’s basketball team was on the road in Tennessee as it always was around Christmas. The time stamp on Twitter proves it: “11:17 PM – 27 Dec 2011.”

“We sent that tweet,” Krizancic said.

Yes, that tweet.

The one with the “I love to kiss … ” message on Trubisky’s account that, according to some archived screen shots, received 20,962 “retweets” and 17,781 “likes” after the Bears drafted him. Yes, that tweet about breasts that turned into “Sundays are for kissin’ … ”

All the QBs I was told was better than Trubisky seem to be struggling today.

Watson: 16-30, 162 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT

Garoppolo: 15-31, 1 TD, 2 INTs

The opponent’s defense doesn’t matter at all. I’m sure Mitch will light up the Vikings and Patriots when they play.

Patriots were 32nd in passing yards allowed last year. Mitch only threw 1 INT in 2 games vs the Vikings, including his 1st ever NFL start.

And horsefeathers a Jinx.
