I've been on the Bote bandwagon since the beginning. People who follow the minors really closely noticed him and we talked about him last year. Check the minor league threads.

I don't expect you (or anyone really) to go back and check the old threads, but I just wanted to state this to refute the idea that he's a non-prospect and came out of nowhere. Scouts and prospect analysts noticed him and obviously Cubs' brass. He was added to the 40-man roster and would've been selected in the rule 5 draft most likely.

I just hate the idea or notion this is some fluke and that he's "probably nothing".

[expletive], you wanted to spike the football on a long shot call you made in hopes that we e-fellate you

What? Okay, I've posted here long enough for people to know that isn't what I'm about... I wasn't even the biggest Bote fan or backer here. I liked him last year, but other posters liked him more and/or noticed him before me.

I only want credit when I push for an amateur prospect in the draft and they end up being legit/making it to the big leagues. I really don't make "long shot calls" on prospects in our farm system. I like Eloy a lot, and wasn't a fan of the Quintana trade but that isn't really some edgy hot take.

I always fully buy in to relief prospects who put up video game numbers in the low minors and I don't think I've been right yet. Mekkes is the one though.

Tommy is still our best PH option

Tommy might not be our best PH option even if he's the only position player left on the bench.

So what I think you're saying is you want a pitcher to PH in that scenario?

Keith Law kills me, gawd. He just cannot take even the slightest hint of criticism, even if it's not remotely close to a direct swipe.

Chuck: Was David Bote on any scouts radar as any kind of a prospect? Sure, it’s a SSS, but you have to love how he plays the game and what he brings offensively and defensively. I guess he’s a reminder that scouting isn’t an exact science.

Keith Law: He was #12 on my Cubs ranking preseason, so I guess he’s a reminder that you should read the stuff I write?

Ooooh you had him at 12 in one of the worst prospect orgs in baseball, you were right on him, baby!

when i said he was a "non-prospect" i just meant he was older and never really made any lists. and "probably nothing" was relative to the hyperbole about how we have another great starter locked in or whatever. and the fact that was was talked about in the minor league forum doesn't really mean much, considering how little there is to talk about there right now.

having said that, bote is fun and cool. i hope he does lots of good baseball things.

I can't get over what an unnecessary dick he was here. I love how seriously some sports writers take themselves.

Oral history of the Bote grand slam:

I think Monty posts here:

Mike Montgomery: "I was on the bench. It seemed to be one of those games we were going to lose. Then [the Nationals] add two in the ninth and I figured the only chance we had is if they made errors or walked guys. Instead, they hit a couple guys."

La Stella: "[Anthony] Rizzo and I were talking about it and he had his hand in front of my face, so I moved his hand out of the way and he took it to mean I wanted him to do something with his hands.

It was nice to punch them in the chin and steal one from them."

Bob Bote:

In the ninth inning, I was downstairs folding clothes. I watched every pitch until [Ryan] Zimmerman got his base hit, then I got up and I said, 'The game is over.' I started folding some laundry.

6 DRS in just 169 innings at third base. I know Maddon loves having Russell and Baez up the middle, and for good reason, but Bote has looked so good defensively, I really don't think we're losing much there with Bote starting over Russell. Hopefully he's still an above average hitter by October because that could be a DEEP lineup in the playoffs.
