How did I turn anything negative? I posted the Cubs record this year. If you took that negatively, it's on you.

cubswin11 did it in this thread, but i've seen you do it on other threads recently. i just didn't feel like responding to them, because i was happy about the cubs doing well.

I believe you called me out first with the "unflattering bit" comment

come on man, you're going to pretend like there was no intent with this comment?

51-36. 2016 Cubs were 52-35 at this point.

I was led to believe this team sucks, is a disappointment and is underachieving

i'm running out of steam here, i just don't see the point in passive aggressive bait when everyone is happy

Wait, calling out Duke on his behavior here?

Other than a slight obsession with 17 Seconds' negativity, he's damn near a model citizen.

Seems a little bit more than a slight obsession. I mainly only lurk in the game threads. That is what I base my impressions on.

I just felt like speaking up on 17's behalf. Years ago, I used to have a personal beef with him on these forums. We worked it out. I'm pretty sure he loves the Cubs as much as anyone else and as far as venting goes, I vent a lot about this team during games myself but I don't often post it here.

It just seems like a bunch of trivial nonsense over nothing really. Not that I really expect anyone to value my opinion that much but I felt moved to speak up.

I just think it's a bit odd to want to call out other Cubs fans after a win or a win streak.

Like, "ha-ha! The team you're a fan of is DOING BETTER AND WINNING LOTS OF GAMES. Suck it, loser!"

I mean there was some intent, not driven at any poster in particular. Just saw Duke post we are basically at where we were when we won the WS and 100+ games (which hey, we should all be happy with that!) and yet it seems every day there's posts about how this team sucks and is doomed and is in trouble.

Very cute, Pedantic Pete; when people encounter something sucky, it's not unusual for them to complain about it even if it's something that's sucky only for a limited period of time.

The only weird thing is pretending to have to explain this concept to jersey cubs fan.

I mean, when the Cubs were a perennial 85 loss team, every couple inning stretch of suckiness threatened to set me off. But I literally cannot get the least bit worked up for a couple inning stretches of suckiness now, because of context.

Its fine to get upset and say that things suck or that AB blew or Joe Maddon's glasses are out of style now or whatever. But when you extrapolate your 2 inning anger to pretending the offense is somehow "a joke" over the course of the season, then you've gone off the rails and deep breaths need to be taken. The Cubs are, in fact, awesome. Our rational minds know this. I think a lot of us have programmed ourselves not to believe our rational minds when it says the Cubs are good, because our rational minds knew our meatball minds were tilting the scales in favor of crappy Cub teams for a long, long time.

That's fantastic!

It is...crazy idea, I know...almost like a bunch of fans following sports. There's a big ol' middle ground between, "I don't even own an emotion about my favorite sports squadron," and, "THIS TERRIBLE GAME MEANS THE CUBS ARE GOING BACK INTO THE CELLAR FOR YEARS TO COME."

Completely agree. I made a noise that no human should make when Rizzo lined out to center in the 9th, let alone in the context of a sportball game.

The conversation always centers on this 'you can't tell people not to feel' point that is a strawman. Be as irritated that you want that things go poorly, what people are asking for is for a dose of perspective when people try to extrapolate that to bigger picture. It's not healthy to spend a bunch of time talking yourself into thinking the Cubs are actually bad every time they go 48 hours without a win. Or if you do, please shout those thoughts at your TV/into the ether instead of trying to find a way to justify that negative feeling being an actual harbinger of doom by telling everyone else about it.

But that's typically not what happens. Again, you're taking someone like r_mack or even Schwarber Fan and applying it to anyone grousing about a cruddy game. And, even then, there's a huge difference between, "I'm worried that X might be a bigger/ongoing problem," and, "I think the Cubs are terrible."

If post-loss discourse ever reaches "I'm worried that X might be a bigger problem" then that would be a massive improvement. Or rather, if X ever starts being something remotely worth worrying about at that stage.
