so does this replace the comcast stuff?

comcast has kruetz, briggs, alex brown, and i think some others i might be forgetting (forte?)

i wonder who they will get as on air talent, bears-wise, if they can't get those guys

how do nfl rules demand a black out of talk shows out of market?

I think that has more to do with the re-aired game broadcasts.

it says "these shows" but maybe they were just sloppy with wording

Maybe to keep the National shows on NFLN and the ESPN/Fox/CBS/NBC channels who pay for national rights happy and get more viewers on them? Idk, it’s dumb. But maybe something protect their big national partners and keep more eyes/ad dollars on them.

I could be wrong but I don't think so. It doesn't sound like Marquee is going to air a postgame show, and they already announced the host of the weekly recap show is one of the dudes already working at Marquee (name escapes me). I don't think NBC Sports had any sort of exclusive right to air Bears-related shows since there are Bears recap shows on NBC and Fox (and maybe elsewhere) on Sunday nights.

In addition to people liking Dempster, they'd like to see Sutcliffe on post-game, so horsefeathers everyone.

I hate Dempster the person but he actually had some good insights IMO when he was subbing as color man. That said, I hate the 3 man booth

Spending years putting together a network and then essentially abandoning it as soon as you accomplish that goal and get everyone on the hook for $6/month seems like a pretty solid metaphor for the rest of this organization.

Abandoning it? What did I miss?

How was it abandoned?

'Abandon' isn't the right word, but it was more convenient than 'very clearly half-assing it'. Not showing Theo's presser at the end of the year, coming up with the bare minimum of coverage/analysis around the games, etc. To be fair, I haven't even thought about pulling it up since September, but get the strong impression I'm not missing anything.

I read somewhere that MLB has rules against showing Zoom press conferences live (why, I have no idea, but it would explain why it wasn't aired live).

As for the game-adjacent content, we have no idea what might have been planned pre-pandemic. I wasn't thrilled with most of the in-game stuff (Taylor McGregor spending multiple games showing off old memorabilia that no one cares about was pretty painful), but I imagine when we're post-pandemic, the coverage will improve.

Hulu Live is dropping Marquee.

Dammit, really?

It'll probably be back. Everyone is dropping the RSNs right now because other than the occasional college football game, they're literally not airing anything anyone would watch until at least January when the NBA is supposedly coming back.

I guess from a business sense, I don't get the downside here for the Cubs. You partnered with Sinclair to get your network up and running and to get carriage as wide as possible. Check and check. I believe most of the people managing the day to day operations are CSN and WGN castoffs, not people Sinclair would take with them.

The carriage deals are locked in now except for Hulu and YouTube. Shouldn't the Cubs be ecstatic to kick Sinclair to the curb at this point?

I'd guess there's still a ton of industry specific knowledge Sinclair brings. Now apparently Kenney wanted the Cubs to do it on their own before. What would be interesting is if the Cubs have any sort of right of first refusal or anything like that and the capital and motivation to make that happen and just take back Sinclair's half. Or if they just have the power to pressure a sale to a strategic partner they'd like.

Its certainly looking more and more like the market on the carrier side just really sucks for these RSNs. Direct-consumer model looks more and more likely (but the blackout hurdle is still large)

my internet at home is no longer recognizing my location as being in the cubs territory when i try to sign in through my provider. (I was trying to set it up on a new TV)

i'm in evanston. obviously in territory. didn't let me sign in on the new tv and now when i try to do the same on my laptop and phone, it doesn't work (and it used to).

Anyone else have a problem like this or any suggestions? I have a feeling that I wouldn't get far and would just get a bunch of finger pointing at each other if I called customer support for any of the companies involved

In a promising development, I noticed yesterday that Marquee aired an hour long "Cy Young Announcement Special" for Yu Darvish featuring a bunch of people including Rick Sutcliffe, Tommy Hottovy and Len/JD talking about the voting results and breaking down Yu's season
