I assume this will save them some money as well? I don't like the pick, but that may change my mind on things.

Yeah, he's probably not going to get slot but I wouldn't expect too massive a savings. Maybe a few hundred thousand.

We said the same thing about others in year's past? I think he might get around slot. Maybe a few $100K in savings....

Not happy with the pick, but he's a utility player at least. Whatever.

So what do we think a good outcome for Hoerner looks like? Something like Jed Lowrie or Asdrubal Cabrera?

Mike Trout but more gritty and a SS.

But something like Lemaheiu, Lowrie, maybe Didi before the huge power spike but more average/BABIP?

Surprised McClanahan keeps on falling. Seemed like a tailor made Nationals gamble. Still, love Denaburg.

Too lazy to ponder which teams might have underslot early but seems like McClanahan will slip and be a nice pickup for someone early in round 2, unless there's something we are unaware of, outside of the already known risks

UK, the Red Sox picked Casas as a third baseman.

They did have Youkilis there for years so anything is possible.

Lemahieu

College bat who squares everything up and settles as an above average defensive 2B

A guy that's like a 1.5fWAR player outside of Coors?

That's a good call. I can totally see that.

Nope. Jed Lowrie had a better bat and a lower chance at sticking at SS. I think Nico has a better chance at sticking at SS?

Not sure about a Cabrera comp either. I think Cabrera had a better hit tool/bat in his scouting reports too

Listen, I invented hating DJ Lemahieu, I don’t really want to get into the hangover effect because we’re making crude comparisons and not pinpointing exact outcome. I don’t think Hoerner is going to win a batting title even if he gets traded to Colorado and I’m clearly talking about the profile independent of park/league factors that might influence it.

I think he's going to have a bit more pop than LeMahieu, but who knows.

In some respects, the pick really makes a lot of sense. They kept on noting how they couldn't miss with this draft, and they needed to restock the upper levels with positional assets. Hoerner is relatively safe, compared to the other options out there, and he was safer than Eierman. I preferred more upside, but I get it, with how the system stacks up, what the needs were, and how the draft looked.

Really love the Noah Naylor pick for the Indians. They'll give him all the time he needs behind the dish.

I wonder if this is the dagger in the Mejia behind the plate option in Cleveland. The doubts have continued to grow despite the 80 grade arm.
