this would be a cool spot for the cubs to have rizzo lead off again. it kind of antagonizes the pirates, it precludes the possibility of a two out, nobody on situation in the first that allows the pirates to put a man on first with relatively little impact, and joe could have a nice talk with the umpires immediately before the game about how he sure is going to be mad if his first batter gets drilled.

The downside is that with 8 and 9 in front of him, it's more likely that a later at bat is a bases empty, 1 or 2 out situation

I think a more likely situation is if one of the Pirates tries to take out Addison or Javy at 2nd base

"Why are the Cubs playing Chatwood at 2nd base and heyward at SS????"

“Oh the guy you asked me about throwing at, no we aren’t going to throw at him. But you know he gets hit a lot and we are going to throw inside on him and one might get away.”

Wait, is he saying that they need to throw extra hard because Rizzo already gets hit so much? Or that Rizzo gets hit so much because of plays like the slide?

Rizzo is getting hit tonight

Hard nosed, old school baserunning is not allowed and I will show my disapproval by hitting the base ball man with some equipment!

None of the above? I think he’s just saying Rizzo gets hit a lot and the strategy is to pitch him hard and in so he might get hit and it’s not on purpose “wink, wink.”

Also I think he thinks he’s being clever or throwing shade or something by referring to Rizzo as the player who had the hard slide instead of just saying his name.

I started reading Big Data Baseball a long time ago, and every time I think to come back to it I remember that it's trying to make Hurdle into a protagonist that is full of pragmatic and progressive ideas, and it kills my desire to continue reading.

Win turds

But alas the Bucs have their rallying cry and red faced Lester probably gets tossed for retaliating the retaliation.

I feel like I’m missing something really funny here, and I want to understand the joke more than I care about looking like an idiot for having to ask for the explanation.

I'm sending everyone with two outs and would have there, but I'm also pretty sure he'd have been out judging by those throws.

I think it's just joking about having two of our crappiest players playing at the positions and then not having to care if they get hurt.
