The Pirates thought they were legitimate contenders and that they could come into Wrigley and walk all over the Cubs.

They might not have learned their lesson yet, but they'll learn it quickly enough, much like the Cardinals and Brewers last year. There will be no mercy afforded them. They chose to come down this road. And they shouldn't have done that...

it's a getaway day lineup against the Pirates so it's not a huge concern, but that really reinforces how important Rizzo and Bryant are to the team. Take one of them away, and with your 3rd best hitter(Contreras) sitting more than the average regular you get a much weaker lineup a fair amount of the time. Thankfully the depth is so good that you don't have a bunch of empty husks in the back half of the lineup, it's more the difference between good and great.

To add, the Cubs are now 12 games into the season, and all non-Bryant players have had at least one off day, and all but Bryant and Russell has had two. With 4 realistic bench options and missing Rizzo for 5 games.

 

EDIT: The Cubs have used 11 different defensive starting lineups in 12 games. The only repeat was Contreras-Rizzo-Baez-Bryant-Russell-Schwarber-Happ-Heyward.

It's annoying I can't listen on gameday anymore, and I have to have 2 tabs open.

 

Yep. And on the Gameday audio page there’s barely any information. No strikes/balls/outs, base runners or stats. Pretty lame.
