The Tyler O’Neil guy is the new cardinal that makes no sense.

we're not allowed to complain because bote is going to make people say, "who's josh donaldson again?"

I was going to say that the Mariners giving him to the Cards for Marco Gonzales was dumb, but Gonzales is actually pretty good this year.

That being said, O'Neil is just the next DeJong/Grichuk/Diaz. Somewhat useful, but not really that special.

Having another not special 3-4 WAR player is somewhat useful I guess.

I don’t see O’Neil being a perennial 3-4 WAR guy

An athletic 23 year old OF that hit .311 .385 .693 1.078 in AAA shouldn't surprise anyone.

He has 1 WAR in 92 PA, was a top 100 prospect multiple years and has a good MiLB track record. It's OK to say he might actually be a pretty good player even though he's a Cardinal.

He has a 12/1 k/bb in MLB, and had about an .820 ops in 550+ pa at aaa before that line this year.

Ok? A top 100 prospect hit well in his first turn in AAA at 22 and got better, and is hitting well in MLB and that is somehow unexpected I guess?

Your doomboner for Javy must be raging.

He does have a 38% K rate and his BABIP is .391 so his numbers are definitely inflated but it’s also less than 100 PAs. Looks like he’s always been a higher K guy in the minors (though nothing outrageous) but has put up solid numbers while being young for his level.

Scouting the stat line but it seems like there’s at least some potential there.

You're heavily implying that O'Neill is just a 3+ win player now like we all should've expected, come on. I'm not going to be bending over backwards to credit a rival hitter, but the guy has a 38% K rate and 3% walk rate and prior to this year had never had a MiLB K rate below 26%. He's not some absolute nobody, but the idea that he's just continuing on his trajectory in a way that's going to make him a consistent 3+ player is nonsense on both accounts. If you're trying make the comparison to Baez it's basically an admission of that, because the answer to that is that Javy has never made any sense, and relies on insane physical tools and elite infield defense to be any good. And even then this is the only year where he's crossed 3 WAR.

Not that it matters all that much (crapshoot and all), but who are our ideal opponents in NLDS/NLCS?

I’m thinking a combination of two of Rockies/Brewers/Phillies?

The answer, as always, is the survivors of a 7 team tiebreaker gauntlet at 88-74 that envelops the NL West and East titles and both wildcards.

Phillies would be a little scary with Nola and a motivated Jake pitching 3 of the 5 games (assuming 1 is used in the WC game, 4 of 5 if its a 2 v 3 matchup). That said I'd least worry about our pitching staff against their offense.

Colorado is a winnable matchup, I just hate the idea of 2 games at Coors

Milwaukee is my pick but we could beat any team in the NL so whatever bring it on.

Brewers getting it from the Reds. 4-0

Brewers lost 9-7.

I hate the Cardinals more, but if the Brewers miss the playoffs I'll be mighty pleased. In an ideal world both teams miss the playoffs, but that probably isn't happening.

Forget the Brewers they’re done. It’s all about outlasting the Cardinals.

For the division maybe. They still have the 2nd wild card at the moment.
