My mom was a Kindergarten teacher and I grew up learning how to sit “Indian style” (they did finally address this and now it’s not called that in schools).

 

Hell, my boss now still says things like “we had a pow wow” which I know offends one of our co-workers on some level. She’s a light skinned Native American and she asked her how far back she had to go for her Native American roots. She replied, “ummm. Both my parents?”

Well, there are some super racist versions, but it's a lot older than that and its origins were mostly just in nonsense words.

 

There's a great Alec Guinness movie called Kind Hearts and Coronets where a character just casually drops the racist version of it, and it's crazy. That's obviously hardly the only time that happened in a movie, but I remember doing a double take when I saw it on TCM a few years ago.
