there is no way that can be true.

why?

Because winning comes first in the NFL. Why would Reid, on the week of a playoff game, allow him to take time off to prepare for an interview for another job? I get that Reid has traditionally called plays as a head coach, but doesn't make sense to me to change things up before a do-or-die game.

I could see him a) not wanting to stand in the way of a guy's livelihood and a big opportunity, b) being fully confident in his own ability to call the offense, regardless of how well it was running with nagy, and c) doing andy reid playoff things

and it sure did look like reid was calling plays

Well, Reid letting him take time to prepare... Maybe, I don't know... but there's no way it was a done deal as the tweet said initially.

So we hired the guy people were saying embarrassed himself to a degree that made him unhireable a few days ago?

Sounds about right.

For a Kyle take, sure.

Maybe, the fact that he was having an interview was the done deal, and this guy either typed it wrong or misunderstood? That makes more sense.

there are lots of dumb meatballs in NFL front offices, like the ones who said ryan pace got himself fired with the 2017 draft, and the kind that say a bright young candidate made himself unhireable based on one bad half of offense (even if he did do the playcalling himself)

I'm not actually mad that they went with him. I don't have a shred of background required to evaluate coaching hires. I just think it's funny.

When we go 11-5 and Mitch is all-pro, then you can laugh

apparently, reid helped pederson assemble his staff in philly and may do the same for nagy

and apparently he views nagy more highly than he viewed pederson as an nfl hc prospect

this is based on some greg gabriel stuff and listening to the score and parkins talking to his KC connects (where he used to work)

Well that would be an incredibly dumb way to word that tweet, and yes, the interview was a done deal as it would have required a formal request.

I know people had a 'take it or leave it' attitude about Fangio, but I'd love if we somehow kept him. The defensive players seem to love him based on a few quotes ive seen, and it would be nice to have some consistency on that side of the ball.

Now that we know it's Nagy, then I too hope he returns. The one thing I'd question about Nagy is his connections to quality defensive coaching candidates.

Basing whether you are happy with this hire or not off Fangio is like being happy with the presidential ticket because for the VP

maybe he's very happy with the hire and keeping fangio as defensive coordinator would be the cherry on top that would make him super happy

If Fangio doesn't stay, just playing 6 degrees of NFL assistant separation.

Bob Sutton (DC for Kansas Cory the past 5 years) previously was the DC in New York, where Ed Donatell, current Bears DB coach, was on the staff in 2007 (Dan Quinn was also on that staff as an interesting nugget).

Donatell does have some prior DC experience with GB and Atl from 00-06 and University of Washington (08), mostly unremarkable, but I think he's done a pretty damn good job with the DBs in Chicago, and SF before that. Could be a candidate who keeps some of that stability on D.

I took a peak at the current defensive staff in KC and it's a lot of longtime old position guys, and young inexperienced guys... didn't seem to be any obvious DC candidates in waiting to poach.

I swear I saw “Fangio likely to stay.” on a tv screen during one of the local 6:00 news, but the fact nothing has popped up here makes me think I was seeing things.

I saw a tweet after the Nagy hiring today that all focus was on keeping Fangio since they have until tomorrow to exclusively negotiate or something and the guy who tweeted that expected a deal to get done.
