I don’t love the idea of focusing solely on offensive minded coaches. Get the best coach available and work from there.

Nope. Mitch needs one offensive system to work under. Go with that guy as hc and you'll never lose him to a higher job.

Yep, this is the main reason I want an offensive-minded HC.

So, the Bears have around 42 mill of cap space currently. Is this the year Pace finally spends? I'd have to say it is. They've got to show serious signs of improvement at some point, can't see why its not now.....

On top of the 42 they've currently got, they can cut these guys and save quite a bit more.....

Glennon (11.5)

Sitton (7.9)

McPhee (7.0)

Sims (5.7)

Massie (5.5)

Wheaton (5.0)

Cooper (4.5)

Young (4.5)

Freeman (3.5)

Demps (3.3)

That's 58.4 mill more. In other words, they've got 100 mill to spend, if they want.....

QB Trubisky

RB Howard Cohen

WR Meredith

WR White

WR

TE Shaheen

LT Leno

RT

LG

RG Long

C Whitehair

LDE Hicks Robertson-Harris

NT Goldman

RDE Bullard

OLB Floyd

ILB Trevathan

ILB Kwiatkowski Jones

OLB

CB Callahan

CB

FS Jackson

SS Amos

They don't have to get rid of all of those guys that are cuttable, but I'd guess most of them are gone. And honestly, with this much cap space....If you think Fuller bolts, I'd go ahead and franchise him.

Again, you can keep some of the guys that you can save on, but we've got plenty of cap room to add 2-3 WR's, an O-Lineman, a CB or 2, and an Edge rusher.....

I think you have to bring Fuller back considering all the other holes that need to be filled. Franchise if you must, but start working on a contract.

Talk radio media members really seem to be driving this Ted/George fear, much the same way they obsessed over Kenney.

This isn't a real story. Either Pace hires a good HC, drafts well and signs some quality FA, and this team gets better, or he fails and he is gone in 2 years. Ted and George being in the room will not play a part.

Whats the boards opinion of Pace? Im 50/50. Some good picks, some lousy moves (Alshon)

I'm somewhat confident in his ability to make this team a quality contender, but aware of his shortcomings to date.

This is kinda where I am, maybe slightly more confident. I reserve the right to judge after this offseason which I'm viewing kinda sorta as the Cubs 2014-15 offseason (at least as much as you can apply baseball to this)

I would agree with this. I am cautiously optimistic but this is a make or break year for him. I think his drafting has been good but at the same time I wonder if I am just so defeated that even marginally competent drafting seems good to me. I actually like his approach in FA. He seems to take fliers on guys who have some upside with minimal long term commitments. I mean, the best player on the team is a Pace FA acquisition. Maybe it's meatbally, but I don't think keeping a revolving door of GM's every 2-3 years is going to put the Bears in a good place.

I like most of the names thrown around for Head Coach here. I am pretty intrigued by McDaniels - which I never thought I would be saying.

i've read/heard some horrendous things on mcdaniels the last few days. players almost universally saying they hated him and playing for him (while still praising his x's and o's acumen).

Well, that sucks.

I feel like you could get a glimmer a god complex when he got to Denver and wanted to trade Cutler immediately. And lets not forget, he’s working with Tom Brady for crying out loud. How long before he bails in Mitch and wants to dump him for some NE cast off? How much of his success is actually due to his play calling?

The head coach hire is a make or break decision, but this isn't quite a make or break year. With a 2-year extension both Pace and this new coach will have until 2019 to really show it on the field. He could go 7-9 this year and not risk losing his job. He could probably go 5-11 again and stay at the helm.

I meant it more as a make or break year in terms of how I thought about him (which is super important to him and everyone else, I am sure).

This seems like as good a place as any to accept my loss on that bet with Tim. If the season had ended after the Cincy game the Bears would've been 5th in both yards and YPA but they limped to the finish line hard and ended up 16th in rushing yards and 11th in YPA. Not good. So Tim, PM me your preferred Venmo/PayPal/Quickpay thing or else I can donate the $20 to the site.

Also, I think I owe somebody one bajillion internet dollars for the Bears not being 7-9 or better.

The DeFillipo thing is the best Bears news I've heard in a while though. Please get someone who can run a cool offense like Philly's. The Panther's DC sounds equally like a sad cruel joke and the exact thing Bears ownership would do so I'll be skipping out on the betting for that one.

great now the site’s going to get shut down when the feds find out it exists only thanks to the largesse of weed barons and their ill-gotten riches
