Assuming the deal doesn't involve, say, Chase Headley/Jacoby Ellsbury (underperforming vets that they don't want), and instead, involves, say, Starlin Castro, plus maybe the Marlins eating more money ... that's about as good a deal as the Marlins could hope for, after Stanton's power play. They can likely flip the remainder of that Castro contract off to another squad (for example ... the Ohtani/Trout Angels could use a 2nd baseman).

It's possible, but -- as an example -- the Angels could sign Neil Walker on the same dollars, twice the projected WAR, and not give up a prospect.

Sure, I agree. I posted in the other thread (the Ohtani thread) that Walker made a bunch of sense (particularly since he could slot at the top of that lineup a bit better. I actually think Walker is a better fit than Castro ... but there's going to be a competitive market for Walker, it seems, or at the very least, competition.

Sounds like it's about done.

Poor Starlin.

Yeah, talk about a brutal downgrade after being traded from one team of rising young stars with a long bright future ahead to another.

Did i dream Chapman was a player that helped the Cubs win a WS? How is Starlin associated at all with Gleyber?

This is fine. Takes our biggest competition for Harper off the board (ostensibly).

We'll probably never know now, but I never saw Harper going to the Yankees unless they were the only ones offering him a monster contract. His personality just doesn't to mesh well with their lame crew cut/clean shaven bs.

Trying not to let myself hate Heyward, thinking about how easily we could have had Stanton if it weren't for him.

A ton of things had to happen to get to this point no reason to hate Heyward, plus we won a World Series.

The Marlins might not have even been sold if Fernandez just decided to go home instead of jettying himself.

So we get to live in a world where aaron judge and giancarlo are on the same team, AS WELL AS one where the best player in baseball gets to play with a bizarre two-way Japanese introvert, AS WELL as one where the Cubs win a world series and then sign Bryce Harper two years later. I think that's ok.

He’s not complaining about the trade from the Cubs perspective he’s just making an humorous observation.

Starlin was traded for Warren who was traded back to the Yankees with Torres for Chapman. Chapman resigned with Yankees. Then Starlin was traded for Stanton.

Of course this is leaving out whatever minor leaguers are going to Miami but basically that’s what happened.

I just want to add Stanton's dongs to our lineup, leave me alone about it, ok?

Other side benefit I just thought of: this probably makes it more likely the Rays pack it in and deal Archer.

And possibly the Jays and Stroman. Both teams are projected for 82 wins right now and winning an AL Wild Card just got a hell of a lot more difficult over the last two days. I’m guessing the Jays make one more run at it with this group (Donaldson an upcoming FA), but you could argue they’re better off accepting what they (probably) are now.

I am sad for Starlin.

Imagine how it must feel to be a Marlins fan (they do have a few) today. I'd be sick as hell.

For a second after the sale of the team, the poor bastards probably thought they were done enduring these teardowns.

The Yankees are still going to also get Harper or Machado after next season; don't kid yourselves.

Machado, maybe. But not Harper. They're not just going to completely ignore the luxury tax, and they've got their OF (and DH) pretty well covered now.

Just brace for the pain now.
